Boarding is a key feature of KTJ. It is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding aspects of school life.

Through boarding, students gain independence, learn important life skills and discover different cultures. This forms a strong foundation for these young global citizens as they journey towards university and their professional lives.

Parents of young or new boarders can have peace of mind as our experienced Houseparents and House Staff are on hand to assist their children with school and prep work (homework). They also help to guide the boarders towards becoming more independent and developing good study habits and discipline.

Boarding Facilities

KTJ has seven senior boarding houses and one junior boarding house, which is divided into separate wings for boys and girls. Each house offers shared bedrooms for up to eight students in junior boarding, four students in senior boarding, and twin or individual rooms for Upper Sixth students. The communal areas are equipped with a board games area, a foosball table, a pool table and table tennis, along with a dedicated cinema room and a kitchenette. Students can work independently in the preparatory rooms, whilst the discussion rooms provide ample space for group study.

Boarding Routines

After school each day and during the weekends, students enjoy an extensive range of activities. These include more than 100 extra-curricular activities to choose from, house activities, and enrichment and entertainment events.

Weekends are for the wide variety of activities which the houses have developed to stretch and enhance the abilities of students. They can take part in sporting competitions during the day or simply enjoy some free time with their friends! Students can also participate in music, drama, dances or other performances as part of the Saturday Evening Programme, which is organised by our senior students.

Junior Boarding

Boarding presents our junior students with an opportunity to develop a range of skills which will benefit them throughout their lifetime. These skills include self-confidence, teamwork, responsibility and mutual respect.

Our junior students occupy Naquiah boarding house which was established in August 1997 and is divided into separate wings for girls and boys. Experienced Houseparents reside in Naquiah and oversee all elements of student care in the House. They are supported by a professional team of visiting and resident House Staff, and a Matron, who help to care for and support the students.

Senior Boarding

The senior boarding students are distributed between three girls and four boys boarding houses.

Our boarding houses offer modern bedrooms with space for studying and relaxing. Lower Sixth students share with up to two students and our Upper Sixth students are in single or double rooms.

Students enjoy socialising in the communal spaces within the boarding houses. These include a cinema room, kitchen, a gym and private rooms for study and academic discussions.
