Peter and Karen Major have been Carmel College’s boarding parents for 11 years and have a great passion for taking care and acting as substitute parents for our boarding students. Our boarding parents are always there to offer love, stability and support to the students in any situation that arises, as being so far away from home and family can be a big deal for them.

Carmel Boarding has a wonderful group of female and male students. These students are mostly indigenous and come from some very remote areas of Western Australia such as Derby, Port Hedland, Wiluna, Meekatharra, Wickham, Laverton, Mount Magnet and Newman.

Worship is a very important part of the boarding students life, as it is a time to reflect and learn about Christian Faith. Our boarders each Saturday morning attend Karla Bidjar Aboriginal Church. The church family has embraced our Boarding students, by loving and accepting them and involving them in various social events.

Activities for our Boarding students, varies from sport to shopping. Sport plays a big part in the students lives and many are team members for varies outside sporting clubs. On weekends the students have opportunities to attend planned activities, which can involve laser tag, Bounce, Beach, shopping and many other exciting and fun adventures.

As boarding is for high school students only, please contact the secondary office for futher information.

WE CARE

The College provides a safe, caring and supportive environment where all students are respected and valued. This is clearly evident in the support given to our boarding students, as we become their second family and genuinely care about their well-being.

WE LIVE

We strive to provide an environment which supports the education and nurture of the whole child: academic, physical, emotional, social and spiritual. This is a particular focus in the lives of our student boarders who are in our constant care.

WE ENCOURAGE

When you entrust your child to our care, we will stand alongside them to support and encourage them through daily joys and challenges. We actively promote the skills of collaboration, cooperation, thinking and problem solving in all areas of life and learning, in preparation to meet the challenges of an ever-changing future. We encourage students to be flexible, independent and self-motivated learners in our nurturing community, as we share in their journey of discovery through real life experiences.

WE RECOGNISE

We embrace differences in our students and promote a sense of active justice and equality for all. We value the multi-cultural nature of our College and encourage the broadening of our students’ worldviews. We also value and celebrate each person’s gifts, encouraging them to share and use them to the best of their ability.
