We understand that making the choice to send your child away from the family to a boarding school is a major decision. We assure you that when your child comes to board at Launceston Grammar, our staff will provide a home-like quality of care, support and guidance.

We offer boarding places for boys and girls from Grades 5 to 12 at our Senior Campus in Mowbray. We offer separate boarding facilities for boys and girls, designed to be comfortable and welcoming. Each house contains lounge areas, study spaces and student kitchen.

Our Boarding Students and families are attracted to boarding at Launceston Grammar because of its unique atmosphere, safe and secure environment, large recreation areas and wide-open spaces. Each boarding house is managed by live-in Heads of Boarding who are responsible for the wellbeing of the students in their care. Heads of Boarding are supported by trained, certified staff who assist with the daily running of the houses.

Our boarding arrangements are flexible and include full-time, part-time, and casual boarding. We encourage strong family connections and Boarders can spend time at home at weekends if they choose.

Limited places are available to ensure we provide a quality residential experience for students with a clear focus on maintaining a friendly spirit of cooperation between staff and families.

Why Board at Launceston Grammar?

  • Our boarding houses are located on our Senior Campus in Mowbray, which means our Senior boarders avoid daily school commutes. We also offer a direct bus transfer to our Junior Campus for our Grade 5 and 6 boarding students.
  • Boarding is an incredible opportunity and challenges students to grow and become resilient. Our boarding students experience new social situations, live with students from various backgrounds and receive academic and pastoral support.
  • Our boarding students are surrounded by like-minded individuals and will have the opportunity to develop and foster lifelong friends.
  • Boarding students have access to exceptional recreational facilities within the School and beyond, including access to ovals, the gym, the swimming pool, cricket nets and our purpose-built mountain bike track.
  • Our boarding environment cultivates independence and communication, allowing students to strengthen their skills to help them succeed later in life.
  • Launceston Grammar is committed to offering a safe, secure and nurturing environment for our boarding students. The physical safety, mental health and overall well-being of our boarders is one of our primary concerns. This is reflected by our dedicated staff, our Health Centre headed by our School Nurse, our boarding transition and Tutor support and supervised homework.
