Residential Life

Our Residential Life program promotes the health and education of our community. Proctors, Dorm Heads, and Dorm Parents play leadership roles in maintaining spaces for well-being, and all students are responsible for upholding expectations of care and inclusivity. Everyone follows a set of rules to ensure each other’s safety in our community.

Residential life also includes plenty of opportunities for fun. Outside of academics, students participate in various activities, events, and trips, organized both by the school and students. On any day you can find students playing frisbee, soccer, or other sports outside, while the Academy sponsors movies, trips, dances, contests, and themed events every weekend. Add in theater performances, club activities, impromptu games, and trips to Boston and local malls, and the fun at Cushing is endless.

Dorms

Cushing's boarding students live in comfortable dorms which they often refer to as their second homes. All dorms have easy access to campus facilities and amenities.

Lee House and Sanborn House

Named in honor of Peggy Lee and Wayne Sanborn, longtime faculty members at Cushing, Lee House and Sanborn House are our newest dorms. Opened in 2017, each features 45 single-student bedrooms, four faculty apartments, common areas, and elevators across three floors.

Lowe Hall

Built in 1890, Lowe Hall is one of the oldest buildings at Cushing. It features 23 rooms, three faculty apartments, a laundry room, and a large common area.

Ashburnham House

Built in 1915, Ashburnham House has 34 rooms, three faculty apartments, a laundry room, and a common room. During the 2017-2018 school year, “Ash” was closed for a major renovation that resulted in significant improvements for this dorm.

Alumni Hall

The largest residence hall on campus, the Alumni Hall has 44 rooms, six faculty apartments, a laundry room, and a recently-renovated common area.

Sawyer-Hopkins Hall

The Sawyer-Hopkins Hall contains 29 rooms, three faculty apartments, two laundry rooms, and a common area. It is in the same building as our Health and Wellness Center, located next to Alumni Hall.

Price Hall

Price Hall features 23 rooms, three faculty apartments, a laundry room, and a recently-renovated common room.

Schottland House

Through the generosity of Peter and Susan Schottland (parents to Meghan ’09 and Bradt ’12), Schottland House was dedicated to Cushing in 2011. The dorm is home to 10 students.

Cowell House

Lightly renovated in 2019, Cowell House is home to just eight students with two faculty apartments, making it the smallest dorm at Cushing.
