Maharishi School is a global community with students and families representing more than 30 countries. Our school community is deeply enriched by students of diverse origin who come together to create global awareness and a vibrant school culture with rich traditions.
We know the decision to send your child to a boarding school far from home is not easy and you are doing this as an investment in their future. We also understand you are making this decision out of love for your child. Because we believe that the world is our family, we take seriously our role as their extended family in the United States.
The Maharishi School boarding program is available to students in grades 8-12. Boarding students entering 9-12th grade are placed in the dormitory while space is available, then in a host family when space in the dormitory is full. Students entering 8th grade are placed with host families.
Living at Maharishi School, whether in the dorms creates lifetime bonds. Our students have shared experiences that span passion projects, classes, athletic teams, and day-to-day living. You’ll meet and live with people you would never have who come from all over the world to study at Maharishi School. Our new dorm is so close to the classroom facilities that it serves as a social center for both residential and day students.
Maharishi School is more than a place to sleep and study, which is why we have many touchpoints for our students to get involved. Our students gain knowledge at our farm-to-table dining table, in the meditation hall, regional field trips, weekend social events like bowling, eSports night, Iron Chef night, and other excursions designed for our boarding students. Learn more about student activities available beyond the classroom.
Resident dorm staff live in the dorm and manage your home away from home. Other dorm counselors support our new dorm family on certain weeknights and weekends but do not actually live in the dorm. The dorm staff supervises evening study hours, sponsor weekend trips and activities, and is on hand whenever students need assistance. Study hours take place Sunday through Thursday evenings and boarders are expected to work productively and quietly.
The dorm rooms can be customized by each student’s comfort and to reflect their personality. The dorm features amenities such as a common media room where boarders can watch movies or sports on the big screen TV, board games and ping-pong tables, dedicated study hours where students can work productively and quietly, lean on dorm counselors for support in transitioning and who are on hand for assistance, chat with teachers, and more all while having fun. Maharishi School is more than just academia or a place to sleep, it’s a community.
Maharishi School believes that at the basis of learning is good health and the basis of good health is nutritious food. Our aim is to offer the highest quality food to our boarding students so they are healthy, happy learners.
Our school cafeteria offers an organic, vegetarian lunch. Students are given a weekly cash allowance to purchase weekday lunches at the location of their choice: school cafeteria, local restaurant or lunch deliveries.
Boarding students prepare their own breakfast at the dorm. Tell the dorm staff your food preference and they will have the ingredients ready for you.
The dorm offers mostly organic dinners with meat and vegetarian options. Dinners rotate through a 3-week menu. View an example Dorm dinner menu. Meat options include poultry and seafood only.
Why only poultry and seafood? We choose not to serve red meats because we feel we have an obligation to do what’s best for the earth and poultry and seafood have the lowest ecological impact. Students are given a weekly cash allowance to purchase 2 weekend dinners at a local restaurant of their choice. Those who prefer red meats usually purchase them for lunch and at weekend dinners out.
If you have vegan or other dietary restrictions, we are happy to work with you.
