Everyday in Boarding is special as there is so much to share and be involved with. The central value of boarding at Monmouth School for Girls revolves around the concept of community. We are delighted to share our boarding houses with over 150 girls from 25 different countries. Our aim is to ensure that each and every one feels welcome and supported and that all the girls have an opportunity to contribute to boarding life.
At Monmouth School for Girls we pride ourselves on giving the best possible around-the-clock care to our pupils.
Our aim is to make a home for the girls whilst they are away from their parents. The staff are highly qualified in pastoral care, with a particular understanding for those who are a long way from home. Each member of staff has been selected for their ability to relate to the girls in their care and to look after each one’s individual needs. The furnishings are comfortable and luxurious and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
Within the boarding houses we operate in an environment of mutual respect for other peoples’ cultures, religions and ideas. Trust is an essential part of boarding and strict rules exist to ensure that each person’s privacy and belongings are afforded the necessary security. Parents can contact the boarding staff at any time if they have any worries or concerns. The girls mix easily across year groups and friendships blossom continually. There is always somebody to whom you can turn when the going gets tough; a fellow pupil, a member of staff, a prefect, amongst others. We hope that your time with us will be hugely fulfilling and rewarding.
Even the buildings at Monmouth School for Girls embody the school’s ethos of combining the best of traditional values with the modern needs of today’s students.
Ultra-modern, purpose-built facilities nestle alongside beautifully restored listed buildings, providing a stimulating environment where pupils can focus on their academic goals, feed their personal interests and belong to a wider community.
All boarders are encouraged to participate in the wide range of extra-curricular activities on offer at lunchtimes and after school during the week. At weekends we provide a wide range of activities and trips for boarders, often joining with pupils from Monmouth School for Boys.
Every Saturday morning girls are encouraged to take part in swimming, rock climbing, archery, serotonin drums, sessions in the fitness suite or in house activities such as baking and crafts. Girls are able to sign up to these on a weekly basis.
On Sunday’s activities range from surfing, biking and ice skating as well as an annual trip to Alton Towers Theme Park. There also more sedate activities such as shopping in nearby Cardiff and Bristol. We work hard to ensure that there is something on the menu for everybody and always welcome new suggestions from the girls.
International Students play a very important part in the life of Monmouth School for Girls. Currently we have girls from Nigeria, Canada, Spain, Germany, Hong Kong, China and Nigeria to name but a few living alongside our UK boarders.
It can be a daunting prospect moving, often half way around the world, to a new place, new school, full of new people. We can promise your student a HUGE welcome and it won’t be long before she really does regard us as her ‘second’ family. We are extremely proud of the pastoral care we offer to each and every one of our pupils.
We very much welcome enquiries from overseas students wishing to join Monmouth School Girls’ Prep or Monmouth School for Girls. There is currently a small number of overseas students and we take great care to maintain a good balance of British and international students in the boarding houses.
