Boarding at Ashbury

Boarding is a unique experience that Ashbury College is proud and committed to offer to its students. One of our main goals in the boarding community is to promote Ashbury's core values in an authentic and meaningful way. The Ashbury boarding community is a caring, safe and structured environment. Students from over 30 countries, including Canada, grow and mature into responsible and committed citizens of the world.

Community

The routine, guidelines and protocols are designed to ensure and promote the overall well being of our students. We expect our boarders to contribute actively towards making the boarding community a close and productive environment; our boarders are expected to be cooperative, committed and engaged.

Character Development

The Ashbury Chapel program fosters spiritual and ethical growth in a community founded upon integrity, tolerance and mutual respect.

International Engagement

Our boarding community prides itself on its cultural richness. As such, our boarders learn to develop integrity, tolerance and mutual respect by learning how to live with one another.

Personal Growth

Our leadership program is designed to allow our boarders to grow to their fullest potential. Student initiatives are strongly encouraged. Learning to become accountable and taking ownership for their choices are skills that will help them throughout life.

Academic Excellence

The boarders have two hours of supervised study time every Sunday to Thursday evening. The residential staff on duty is available to assist students with general home work during these evening study times. Tutoring is provided upon request. Each room is equipped with an Internet connection to facilitate research. Quiet study rooms are provided and the two main residences are equipped with desktop computers.

Boarding Facilities

Ashbury’s newest student accommodation is a boutique-style residence for seven students, located on Maple Lane, directly across from Maclaren Hall and the campus sport fields. Students who live in Maple Residence have a unique proximity to all campus amenities, while enjoying intimate surroundings. A large open common room looks onto campus, while a generous outdoor deck complements the mix of single and double rooms with en-suite bathroom facilities. The Maple residential teaching team provides on-site supervision and support. In addition to enjoying their own common areas, laundry facilities, and kitchen, students have full access to the larger, all-girls Heather Gillin Residence.

The Heather Gillin Residence, located at the northwest corner of the campus, provides a warm and comfortable living space for 51 young women, Grades 9 to 12, and four female residential staff. A full kitchen provides the opportunity to share time together and allows our students to experience the international flavours that roommates might wish to prepare for friends from around the world. This two-storey residence has 19 single rooms and 16 double rooms, each containing private en-suite bathrooms. All girls have access to common areas with flat-screen televisions, exercise equipment, games and study rooms, laundry facilities, a music room with piano, and ample storage space. This state-of-the-art facility, in conjunction with the other residences, is home to students representing over 30 countries.

Matthews House is situated on the southwest corner of the campus. It is home to 51 male boarding students in Grades 9–12. This residence has two floors with a variety of single and double occupancy rooms. Some rooms look out over the sports fields of the campus and others have a courtyard view. The boys have full access to common spaces featuring a flat screen television, foosball and pool tables, piano, a games room and weight training area, in addition to laundry facilities and a bright, spacious kitchen. All meals are prepared for our boarding students in Maclaren Hall, our dining facility.

The Boarding Experience

Students who board at Ashbury College learn to be accountable, develop tremendous leadership abilities, and become independent and resourceful individuals.

Custodianship, Student Visa, Study Permit, and Insurance

All non-residents under the age of 18 studying in Canada must have a Canadian Custodian. Ashbury, along with a  growing consortium of other independent schools, relies on the professional services of International Student Guardianship Canada (ISGC) and the Canada Homestay Network(CHN), to ensure our students are safe and well taken care of during times when Ashbury is closed (for example during long weekends and holidays when students must vacate the residences).

Student Visas and Study Permits are increasingly more complex to apply for and in some countries the process can take months. International Student Guardianship Canada takes the stress and work out of the tedious and lengthy application process and can guide you and your child through the Visa and Study Permit application and renewal process. International Student Guardianship Canada (ISGC) offers immigration services through a registered immigration consultant to international students who need assistance. Please contact them directly.

Insurance is available through gurad.me. For more information about the plan please consult this policy summary.
