LIFE AT THE RESIDENCE

The college is a strong supporter of active involvement and participation in the establishment of projects and activities of all kinds.

For instance, the children will enjoy such experiences as:

• Integration activities with international students;
• Thematic nights like Halloween, Valentine’s Day, etc.;
• A sugar shack evening with maple taffy on snow;
• Karaoke nights;
• Going out to the movies, or a Canadiens or Senators hockey game;
• Corn roast;
• Carnival week;
• End of the year celebration at La Ronde, a water park or elsewhere;
• Résid’or Gala.

The residents can also practice a wide range of sports, such as basketball, football, baseball, tennis, skateboard, soccer, badminton, hockey, broomball, swimming, waterpolo, etc. in our top-of-the-line installations.

DORMITORY RULES

Boarder’s responsibilities

• Collège Bourget is the sole owner of the rooms rented to boarders. The school establishes the renting rules and enforces the code of conduct.
• A deposit of three dollars ($3.00) is required for the room key.
• Collège Bourget is not responsible for lost, destroyed, or stolen property.
• All damages are the boarder’s responsibility. Collège Bourget will see to repairs and the boarder will be billed accordingly.
• Additional furniture: Furniture cannot be moved from one room to another. The authorization of the floor manager is required to include additional furniture. The following items are forbidden in the rooms: television, refrigerator, cooking appliance, a rug, a walkie-talkie.
• Pets are forbidden.

Authorizations

• Posting on walls is permitted, but it must be decent and discreet. Only mounting putty (Fun Tack) is permitted as an adhesive.
• Lamps and humidity control appliances are authorized in rooms.
• Laptop computers are permitted in the rooms. They must only be used as a working tool during study periods. It is the boarder’s responsibility to keep it secure. Computers used after curfew will have to be returned home.
• The use of a mobile phone is tolerated. However, its use is forbidden during study periods and after 9:15 p.m. Boarders who do not respect these restrictions will lose the right to use their mobile phone.
• A boarder may receive visitors. However, the school must be informed in advance. A non resident needs the floor manager’s authorization to visit a room. Girls are not allowed in the boys’ quarters and vice versa.

Personal hygiene and room cleanliness

• According to the school’s code of conduct, all boarders must keep their room clean. The floor manager will apply sanctions (detention, loss of privileges,...) if this rule is not followed.

Code of conduct in the dormitory

The dormitory is a place of calm and rest where respect for others is a priority. Therefore, certain rules apply.

• You must be in the dormitory as of 8 p.m. All boarders must sign their name legibly on the attendance sheet. If students expect to be late (after 9:15 p.m.) or absent, their parents must advise the floor manager between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., the same day.
• To keep a calm and peaceful atmosphere, running, yelling and roughhousing are forbidden. The dormitory is not a recreation room.
• Radios, food, and other privileges may be withdrawn if the rules are not respected, if a room is dirty or if a student is impolite.
• Students are responsible for the tidiness of their room:
  • Luggage must be placed under the bed.
  • Clothes must be put away in the appropriate places.
  • Bookcases and desks must be in order.
  • Sinks must be clean.
  • Floors must be clean (no paper or food).
  • Waste baskets must be emptied regularly.
  • At all times, students must pick up their things (hairdryer, hair iron, clothes, towels, etc.). Students cannot leave things lying around in their room, on desks, in common areas, in the halls, in the showers, in bathrooms or on sinks.

RESIDENCY - SCHEDULE

Evening Schedule

• Secondary 1-2: Showers must be taken before 8:55 p.m. Students may circulate freely on the floor and participate in various activities between 8:10 p.m. and 8:55 p.m.
• Secondary 3-4-5: Showers must be taken no later than 9:50 p.m. Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., you may circulate freely on the floor and participate in various activities.
• Students are responsible for their visitor’s behavior in their room (no more than four visitors at a time).
• The volume of radios must be at a reasonable level.
• Radios must be silenced after 8:55 p.m.

Calmness is the Rule

• At 8:55 p.m., for Secondary 1-2 and at 9:30 p.m., for Secondary 3-4-5, when lights are out in the hall, the dormitory must be quiet and calm; students must go to their room and close the door;
• Students must use earphones to listen to music;
• Students may not go to other rooms except for an emergency and with the floor manager’s permission.
• Curfew is at 9:15 p.m., for Secondary 1-2 and at 10:15 p.m., for Secondary 3-4-5, lights are out and it’s complete silence;
• Unless there is an emergency, students may not circulate in the dormitory after 10 or 10:15 p.m.;
• Studies, schoolwork, or reading are forbidden after 9:15 p.m. for Secondary 1-2 and at 10:15 p.m., for Secondary 3-4-5, except with the floor manager’s permission.

Schedule Upon Waking

• In order to respect everyone’s sleep, students must remain quiet when they wake up. They may not visit other rooms.
• Secondary 1-2: Students may take a shower as of 7:05, but they must remain silent. Secondary 3-4-5: Students may take a shower as of 7:00, but they must remain silent.
• When you leave for class, make sure that your room is clean, your bed made, and your door locked.

On departure days, students must ensure waste baskets are empty, rooms are in order, windows are closed and locked, and doors are locked.

CLOTHES AND OTHER ITEMS

DORMITORY

Students must bring towels, personal toiletries, a swim suit and a swim cap, and personal clothes for after-school hours. After-school clothes must be free of violent logo and decent. Some students like to bring their own comforter or pillow, but we do provide the bedding.

UNIFORM

The school uniform can be purchased when you arrive with your child, in August. It can also be ordered online directly from the company, Trium. Then create a profile to see the list of items and place your order.

SPECIAL OCCASIONS

Collège Bourget organizes various special events throughout the year. International students may wish to bring special clothes or costumes for these events.

• National Day: When possible, the school celebrates the national day of the countries of origin of international students. Students should bring clothing that is typical of their country, for instance the jersey of a sports team. International students are asked to plan typical activities from their country for other students.
• Halloween: The school holds a Halloween dance every year. Students should bring a costume and some make-up.
• Christmas: A formal dinner is held two weeks before Christmas. Students are expected to dress up for the occasion. Plan something elegant with clean shoes.
• Winter: Canadian winters can be frigid. Students must bring warm clothes (it is always possible for international students to buy them with the help of their host family):
• warm coat, boots, hat and/or tuque, mitts and/or gloves, scarf, warm socks; thermal underwear is recommended;
• winter day activities are planned during which students have the opportunity to ski (among other things); students will also spend a weekend in Quebec City for the Winter Carnival.
• Valentine’s Day: Students are asked to wear something pink, red, or white.
• Prom night: For secondary 5 students (grade 11), prom night marks the end of high school. This is a very formal event.
