Why Boarding School?

Finding the right school for your child might seem a daunting task. For many, boarding school feels like the right choice, but questions and misconceptions still linger. Today's boarding schools are places for the world's best and brightest young men and women to pursue academic excellence and a myriad of interests. While different schools cater to different needs and ambitions, in all you will find a community of students, parents, and educators committed to inspiring and teaching your child.

According to The Association of Boarding Schools, a non-profit membership organization for independent boarding schools, perceptions of boarding schools are changing.

• Ninety-five percent (95%) say they are satisfied or very satisfied with their academic experience, compared to 86% of private day or public school students.
• Ninety-one percent (91%) report that their schools are academically challenging, compared to 70% of private day and 50% of public school students.
• About 70% of boarding students say boarding school helped them develop self-discipline, maturity, independence, and the ability to think deeply.
• Seventy-seven percent (77%) of boarding students say that their schools provide opportunities for leadership, compared to 60% of private day and 52% of public schools.
• Eighty-seven percent (87%) of boarding school graduates report being very well prepared academically for college, compared to 71% of private day and 39% of public school alumni.
• Seventy-eight percent (78%) of boarding school graduates say that they were very well prepared for the non-academic aspects of college life, such as independence, social life, and time management, compared to 36% of private day and 23% of public school students.

Is boarding school a good fit for day students? Absolutely!

Because West Nottingham Academy is a boarding school, our doors never close, We are a community dedicated to educating and enriching students 24 hours a day, seven day a week. WNA provides a wide variety of programs and activities both during the week and on weekends, and these activities are open to all members of our student body, whether students live on campus in the dormitory or at home with family.

As a boarding school, our activities and student-life options far exceed what is offered at most other high schools. For students, weekend getaways to museums, malls, and sporting events are a perfect way to unwind with classmates. And for parents, it's the peace of mind knowing that students are fully engaged in their high school experience. Attending a boarding school as a day student is also a wonderful way to prepare for the dormitory life in college and in life beyond -- day students are welcome to stay overnight in our dorms with their friends and experience our rich campus life in many ways.

At West Nottingham Academy, day students comprise about fifteen percent of our students, and we wouldn't be the school we are today without them!
