Dorm Life

Gow’s dorms provide a comfortable and supportive living experience in which to learn habits and skills they’ll need in college. Daily chores, known as house jobs, instill a sense of responsibility. Living with roommates helps develop the collaborative spirit for which Govians are known, as well as long-lasting friendships. Dorm parents provide supervision, guidance, and a surrogate family.

School Pillars

As part of our philosophy, we believe that it is very important to uphold the Pillars of

  • Kindness
  • Respect
  • Honesty
  • Hard Work.

In all of our dealings with the Gow community we hold these four values very dearly. Throughout the curriculum students are taught these values and our dedicated faculty and staff model these values to our students. Ultimately everyone on campus is accountable to the Pillars.

Meals

Etiquette and other social lessons are served alongside the buffet-style cuisine in the light-filled dining hall. During Gow’s more structured breakfasts and lunches, students and teachers are assigned to tables during scheduled times. At dinner, students may eat with whom they choose and come and go within an assigned period. Faculty members’ spouses and children often join in, enhancing the family atmosphere.

Assembly

Assembly is held Monday through Friday. This is a time to set the pace for the day, discuss the value of our Pillars, celebrate student and staff achievements, and share in student performances. In addition, special programs are held periodically throughout the year at this time or in the afternoon and evening. A variety of events are presented and parents and visitors are always welcome to attend.

Community Service

The Gow School recognized that the need for community involvement extends beyond our campus. As a graduation requirement, the Community Service Program instills a strong commitment to serving others in our students. Through the rewarding experiences of community service, the School helps students become more caring, generous and responsible individuals.
