Our aim is to provide a holistic educational experience for young men boys. Their first priority is their schooling. Outside of class, over two-thirds of students time is spent in the boarding environment and structure. This too is an opportunity for growth and development, in so many ways. Through pastoral care, through recreation, through chatting and making friends with others, through the arguments that boys have and simply through rubbing shoulders with boys from so many different places, through learning to look after their belongs, and living in a structured environment - these are all opportunities for the boys to learn life-long skills.
One of your concerns will obviously be that your boy might be a long way away from you. We understand how worrying this might be for you. Your boys might be far away from home in terms of distance yet communication is very important to us. Please feel welcome to phone any time if you wish to speak to your son.
Each boy has a Residential Coordinator, or in the case of the new dormitories, a Head of House.
Newsletter are sent out each term to keep families up to date with what is happening at the College. You are also welcome to like the St Teresa’s College facebook page which will keep you up to date on news and activities the boys have been involved in and draws attention to any matters that need to be addressed.
Most importantly, families are always welcome to come and stay with us. We have accommodation specifically for that purpose. We do understand that because of cost and other commitments this is not always possible, equally, we do want you to know that you are always most welcome to stay.
We operate from the premise that the family is paramount. Consequently, we are very conscious here at Abergowrie that we are entrusted, not only with educational expectations, but the care and welfare of the whole person. This translates into a care which both challenges and supports your son so that he comes to realise his personal worth and dignity and as well as that of others. Boarders are encouraged to be active, involved, and to make the most of the opportunities offered to them. Emphasis is placed on activities, tasks and experience.
Our modern fully air-conditioned dormatories and residential facilities provide boys of all ages with a comfortable and safe environment to learn and develop flexibility of mind, strength of character and equips them with the skills needed to navigate future challenges and learning beyond their formal years of schooling.
All dorms are designed for double occupancy. Sharing a room in a dorm full of other teenagers also enhances students’ development of life skills and independence. Student rooms quickly become home. New students receive their dorm room and roommate assignments during orientation. All new students will have a roommate.
Each child will have their own lockable closet and draws as well as underbed storage and a desk to study.
The dormatories have state of the art facilities including computer labs and kitchenettes for their convenience as well as an open common area where students can relax in airconditioned comfort to watch TV or be entertained with many creature comforts. The school also has internet access for all students during the hours of 8am and 10pm every day.
