Boarding at Prior’s Field combines the love and care of a family home with the stimulation, variety and support of a school. Modern day boarding has never been better and we are proud that our knowledgeable, caring and experienced staff offer the highest standards in their pastoral care and support of our young people as recognised by our most recent ISI inspection (2022) which spoke of “boarders cultivate the caring ethos of the school successfully” and say “they have a strong sense of community” as “Pupils frequently give each other a strong sense of support, celebrating and congratulating each other’s achievements”
Flexibility is the key, as we offer full, weekly and half-weekly boarding to suit the needs of modern families. We understand that parents are aiming to be strong role models for their children, often both working and yet risk being pulled in all directions running them to clubs, activities, supporting homework and being a taxi service to allow for social activities. If girls board, all of those things are taken care of by us, with time saved on travelling to and from school. At Prior’s Field, we know that boarding is a decisive added bonus to an independent education. Boarding should not be considered as a necessity or a chore; modern boarding works for modern parents and provides an alternative option to after school clubs, home alone children or paid nannies.
Weekday evenings and weekends are carefully structured to provide supervised prep and academic support, the opportunity to get involved with clubs, sports and activities and the all-important time with friends and their boarding family.
Our boarding houses exude warmth, homeliness and most important of all – laughter. Highs are celebrated and lows are shared – no girl feels she has to cope on her own. Close communication between us, parents and school staff with the boarder at the centre allows us to develop almost bespoke care for your daughter.
Boarders have an extended programme of supervised activities after school and at weekends. They are always busy and fully engaged, but still find time to relax and have fun with their friends and boarding staff.
When they leave Prior’s Field they don’t just walk away with an exceptionally high standard of education, they take with them wonderful memories and lifelong friends.
Boarding With Us
Boarding at Prior’s Field falls into three main categories: full, weekly and tailored. Space permitting, we can also accommodate day girls for occasional stays. Both the Sixth Form and School Boarding Houses offer bright, welcoming and comfortable accommodation and an atmosphere of “trust, tolerance and friendship” (ISI 2016 Inspection) which is created by our dedicated boarding staff.
Full Boarding : For full boarders, the school really is their home. The girls spend a lot of time here and, over weekends, they are provided with balanced opportunities for study and relaxation. Organised activities can include trips to London or to outdoor activity centres, swimming, ice-skating, visits to the cinema, castles, museums and galleries.
Weekly Boarding : Weekly boarders return to school on Sunday evening or Monday morning. They are able to take advantage of focused study during the week and leave us at 4.10pm on Friday. By arrangement, they can also stay on weekend evenings when they choose to and take part in organised activities.
Weekly Boarding Bus to and From London – The school provides a weekly boarding bus to and from London.
Half-Weekly Boarding: Half-Weekly boarding at Prior’s Field tailors the girls’ stay to meet their individual needs, be it an early morning sports fixture, an after-school club or supervised prep. Committing to two specific consecutive nights each week, starting on either a Monday or a Wednesday.
Adhoc: As long as beds are available and we are notified in advance, we are able to accommodate day girls for occasional boarding overnight or for short periods.
Boarding in Sixth Form : A purpose-built separate house accommodates the Sixth Form Boarders. This is a highly modern and inviting space complete with individual study bedrooms (en-suite bathrooms for Year 13), silent study area, pantry and two common rooms; one of which is a fantastic newly-developed loft area complete with Apple TV and with room for a Zumba or Yoga class.
Central to the happiness of Prior’s Field boarders is the team of live-in staff that supports them. Where these staff have young families and pets, this adds to the home-from-home feel and helps boarders to settle quickly and feel happy in their new environment
