FCG Boarding is inspired by Fettes College UK and has been tailored with the needs of Chinese parents and children. FCG integrates 150 years of British history and cultural traditions and the care, support, and value of service recognized by parents with traditional Chinese culture so that every child has a sense of belonging and identity here.
The boarding management team of the school is composed of Chinese and foreign teachers, that is, 1 foreign head of boarding +1 group of Chinese and foreign boarding assistants + foreign academic advisor + boarding teacher. They all have bachelor's degree or above and hold teaching qualification certificates. FCG takes the British "House" as the leading boarding management and uses the pastoral care to run through students' study and life. Ensure that every student receives care, attention, and motivation from the teacher during their boarding life.
Co-Boarding
By adopting a team approach to the management of our boarding houses, our dedicated Expat and Chinese House Parents utilise their respective skills and experience to create a uniquely relevant programme for the students of FCG by effectively integrating the highly regarded practices at Fettes College UK with the values and customs central to traditional Chinese culture.
Boarding is an integral part of a Fettesian education: it ensures that students receive a truly immersive educational experience. Much more than high quality residential care, FCG boarding is an extension of both home and school where students are supported academically and in personal matters by the House Parents and Boarding Tutors who are all qualfied teachers working in the school. Further support is provided by Boarding Carers who focus on the students'day-to-day needs.
In the boarding house our students learn valuable life skills such as resilience, timekeeping, self-motivation and tolerance. Modelled on Fettes College UK, our approach builds independence throughout a student' s time in FCG boarding with a particular emphasis on acquiring the skills required for living at university and integrating with people from different cultures.
Our boarding programme offers a wide range of age-appropriate on- and off-site activities throughout the evenings and weekends designed to promote opportunities for team building, challenge, and collaboration. Our high staff to student ratios ensures all our boarding students receive individualised care and attention, and the small size of each boarding house allows for a home-from-home feel. We understand the importance of differentiating our boarding provision, not just in terms of activities but in the way we interact with students of different ages. All our House Parents and Boarding Tutors are fluent English speakers enabling our boarders to practice English in real-life contexts. Working mainly in Chinese our Boarding Carers develop close bonds with the students and provide another avenue for students to seek support from a trusted adult.
In boarding our students simultaneously develop a sense of self and of belonging, We are always looking for ways to encourage them to expand their horizons by trying new activities, setting personal goals or taking on leadership responsibilities.
