Learning Habitat Kindergarten & Bilingual Nursery (“LHK”) was established to provide high quality bilingual pre-primary education for children in Hong Kong. Its first campus was opened in Tsing Yi in 2000. Subsequently LHK opened its second and third campuses in Hunghom and Tai Kok Tsui in 2004 and 2005 respectively. In view that quality bilingual pre-primary educational service is much sought-after, our fourth and fifth campuses were opened in Tseung Kwan O and Ma On Shan in 2010 and 2016 respectively. Total student enrolment grew from a very modest number of 4 back in year 2000 to over 2,000 today across 5 campuses.
We dedicate ourselves to foster an all-rounded development of our students. Through professionally trained staff, well-balanced curriculum and stimulating environment, we seek to enable our students to successfully face the 21st Century challenges. To achieve this mission, we strive to instill among our students:
We adopt child-centered thematic activity-based approach in teaching. This is further augmented by child-initiated project approach in which practical skills are pursued. Through these teaching and learning processes, children can scaffold their knowledge to further develop their social and thinking skills. Pre-school years are the golden period for children to acquire language skills. Immersed in a bilingual environment, children will acquire language abilities naturally. The result is that they can switch from one language to another effortlessly. We believe that close cooperation between school and families in children’s education will bring out the best effects on children’s learning and overall development.
Our school curriculum is designed and monitored by the Curriculum Development Team, composing of experienced early childhood educators. The Team references local and international educational guidelines to design the most appropriate curriculum. The curriculum is constantly refined through on-going evaluation process to ensure it caters for children’s developmental needs and fosters their thinking and problem solving skills. With the vision for continual refinement of our curriculum, we established the Curriculum Development Team (CDT) in 2003. This Team, comprised of experienced and passionate educators, is responsible for formulating long-term learning strategies and initiating continuous curriculum improvements through research of the latest local and international educational developments.
To reflect the school’s uniqueness and to meet children’s developmental needs, the CDT has developed our school-based curriculum which uses children’s actual school-life experiences as illustrations to enhance children’s sense of belonging and to induce their learning interests. This curriculum is translated through our own proprietary teaching aids, reading books, textbooks and take home activity kits.
