Lecturer in Engineering (Manufacturing/Automotive)

Job Summary

The post of Lecturer in Engineering will be located within UWTSD’s Wales Institute of Science and Art. The post holder will be under the line management of the Academic Director (Engineering), but for operational day-to-day duties will work under the guidance of the relevant Programme Director.

The post holder will be required to devise a range of teaching and assessment materials, coveringseveral modules and subject areas. The post holder will deliver teaching in a variety of differentlearning environments and use a variety of teaching styles and approaches, including all levels of undergraduate study and, where appropriate, postgraduate study. The post holder will offer both academic and pastoral feedback and support to students to the highest professional standards and with regard to the ongoing enhancement of the student experience. The post holder will undertake scholarship, research, training or project work, either individually or within a team, to ensure ongoing professional development and to enhance the profile of the Academic Discipline, Institute and University. The post holder will make a positive contribution to the day-to-day activities of the Academic Discipline that may cover areas such as dissertation supervision, student recruitment, marketing activities, research seminars and workshops, staff training and professional development.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

• An honours degree in a relevant discipline
• A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline

Desirable

• A PhD in a relevant discipline
• Membership of a relevant professional body or teaching qualification

Experience, knowledge and skills

• Experience in teaching, delivery,assessment and student support at undergraduate and postgraduate level in relevant subject area, in a collaborative teaching team
• Experience in the design and development of module content
• Demonstrable ongoing commitment to professional enhancement, scholarship and / or research and project work
• Evidence of commitment to exploring external funding opportunities, awards or grants or possible commercial opportunities
• Good organisational and personal management skills
• IT proficiency and experience of using eresources including a willingness to teach by video-link, VLE, e-mail or website delivery

Desirable

• Experience of supervising postgraduate and research students
• Experience or interest in the automotive, motorsport and/or motorcycle industries
