Fees Policy

Brummana High School (BHS) is a non-profit organisation. It is the Board’s policy to operate the school efficiently, so that fees are no more than is sufficient to maintain the school’s facilities and standards and to allow the school to grow and develop. It is by ensuring that the fees are no more than is required, that the Board aims to enable as many children as possible to join BHS, provided they meet the school’s high standard of academic and personal qualities.

The written agreement accepting the school’s offer of a place is for the academic year and the following years, unless notified otherwise by the parents. The parents undertake:

  • To pay the school fees and all agreed charges for the full academic year on or before their due date.
  • To give one full term’s written notice if, for any reason, it is intended to permanently withdraw the student from school for the following year.

Refunds of any extras or down payments, including the Registration Fee and Tuition Fees, will not be considered, unless the student has completed a full year at the school, the fees are settled for previous years, and the parents have given the required notice.

Application Fee

The Application Fee covers the costs of processing the application and is paid at the same time as the application form is submitted. Following receipt of the application form and fee, a date for placement tests and interviews is advised. If the student is successful, a formal letter of acceptance will be issued and the parents are asked to pay the Registration Fee and the Development Fund Contribution.

The Application Fee is $20 (non-refundable and non-deductible) plus $30 for the Cat4 placement Test (Grade 3 onwards). Both fees are required in fresh money.

Registration Fee

The Registration Fee of 750,000LL is a one-off payment at the time of the student’s enrolment and is not required every year. It entitles the parent to reserve a place for the child.

The fee is refunded on request when the student leaves the school, provided the student has completed a full year at the school, the fees are settled for the previous years, and one term’s notice has been given.

For graduating students, the refund of the Registration Fee can be deducted from Tuition Fees, if it is requested before payment of the last instalment of fees. Any Registration Fees unclaimed by the end of August in the year of graduation, or not refunded, will be considered a contribution to Financial Aid (Bursary).

Boarding Fees

The Annual Boarding fee for academic year excluding tuition) is $17,000, payable in two instalments, by cash or fresh dollar bank transfer. The first payment is due in September and the second in January.

Parents have the option to also select weekly boarding (minus weekends) for 350 fresh dollars per week.

All boarding options cover room and board, pastoral care, 24/7 medical support, heating, laundry, accident insurance, access to facilities as well as a wide range of activities (except ski weekends).

BOARDING (USD)
Term 1 8,500
Term 2 8,500
TOTAL 17,000

Payment Schedule

Currently, the schedule for payment of student tuition fees is as follows:

  • 3 instalments – 1 September (34%), 5 January (33%), 31 March (33%)
  • 2 instalments – 1 September (50%), 5 January (50%)

For existing students the invoice for Term 1 is issued with the report card in June. Parents of new students should pick up the invoice from the Accounts Office after they have paid the Registration Fee and the Development Fund Contribution.

Term 2 and 3 invoices are usually issued one month before the deadline for payment and are sent home with the eldest child in the family.

Prompt Payment of Fees

When a family enrols children at the school, the school agrees to educate the child and, in return, the parents agree to pay the fees. The school’s ability to deliver the promised education depends on the parents fulfilling their part of the agreement. Late payment of fees creates an obvious difficulty for the school. Parents who have difficulty in meeting the fees are urged to contact the Bursar before the deadline for payment.
