Hackley offers students a nourishing, expansive program full of challenge and opportunity, one that is very expensive to run. Our tuition provides 90% of our school budget each year. Our parents see tuition, then, to be an investment in their children’s education. At Hackley, your child will learn from passionate teachers, all deeply invested in the Hackley community and in the success of every student within it.Our teachers get to know students outside of class, appreciating them as athletes, artists, and committed service volunteers.
These faculty relationships run so deep and last so long that our alumni return to visit their teachers as often as their friends.
Our unrivaled facilities and programs, which include spaces as modern as new computer labs and others as natural as our hiking trails through our woods, support wide ranging pursuits, from swimming lessons and organic gardening in Lower School to independent science research and advanced studio art in Upper School.
With an eye to supporting not only the programs and the buildings in which they are housed, but also the tireless faculty and staff who maintain our culture of caring and unreserved effort, our Board in consultation with the school administration sets out tuition each year.
Applying for financial aid is perhaps best understood as a two part effort:
Part One is completed in conjunction with the National Association for Independent Schools (NAIS) and requires families to complete the School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS) Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS). The PFS allows families to apply to multiple schools for financial aid. There is a fee for this service.
Part Two is completed in conjunction with Hackley School and requires families to submit documentation supplementary to the information contained in the PFS.
Hackley’s financial aid program assures that the inability of families to pay full tuition is not a barrier to creating a stimulating student peer environment in terms of skills, talents, gender, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomics, sexual orientation and family structures. Such a peer environment, reflective of the world in which we live and work, is essential to effective education and stimulates achievement through high standards in the academic, artistic, athletic, and moral dimensions of education. In its broadest terms, financial aid enacts Hackley’s commitment to educational achievement and the democratic ethic.
Hackley safeguards the confidentiality of all financial information supplied by applicants and does not publicly identify recipients of financial aid, except with parental permission in the case of distinguished, named awards granted in conjunction with the Office of Alumni & Development. Only those persons directly involved in the financial aid process or in its administration will review this information.
