HPA is a place that welcomes and actively desires students from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We believe it’s vital for the HPA student body to reflect the world in which we all live and work. Everyday, we witness the power of friendships that are formed among students of different backgrounds.

To make HPA accessible, we are firmly committed to prudent budgets and fiscal controls. We strive to create an enriching program that is the best value possible. In addition, many parents, alumni, and friends of the school contribute to the HPA Fund and other priorities each year. We are deeply grateful to our supporters. This practice of philanthropy offsets the cost of an HPA education and benefits every HPA student, every year, regardless of their financial background.

For those families that need additional help, HPA has financial aid available, although it is a modest resource at this time. We are working to increase these resources for the future.

In the meantime, we sincerely encourage you to apply for financial aid. Only by applying can you know for sure what is possible. Once your financial need has been established, HPA will try to help meet that need within the resources we have available. Ultimately, each family bears the responsibility to decide how far to stretch and what is possible for their budget.

A few things to know about HPA financial aid:

• 40% of the HPA student body receives some form of assistance.
• On average, our maximum financial aid awards fall within 45 to 55 percent of the tuition. (This does not apply to merit or other special scholarships.)
• Qualifying for aid is a highly-individualized process. Household income, number of children, savings and other assets, along with many other factors, all play a role in evaluating a family’s financial need. For the 2019-20 academic year, families with household incomes from $15,000 to over $200,000 (boarding families) received aid from HPA. The average household income of all families receiving aid was $105,000.

In setting our annual tuition, the HPA board of trustees balances program costs with prudent budget controls. We understand the financial sacrifices families often must make, and we strive to deliver the best possible value while responsibly supporting our dedicated faculty and staff and upholding our ambitious academic program.
