Schedule of Fees

This Schedule of Fees is to be read in conjunction with the School’s Terms & Conditions.

Registration:

To secure a place, a completed Registration Form should be returned to Belhaven as early as possible, to- gether with a fee of £125 for those living in the UK or £500 for those living outside of the UK. In March of the year of entry, the School will make a formal offer of a place and invite parents to return a signed ac- ceptance, together with a deposit of £750. The offer, acceptance and deposit form a contract between the School and the parents. This deposit will be held by the School and can be offset against the fees for the pupil’s final term at Belhaven if the parents so instruct.

School Fees:

Fees are payable before the beginning of each term. In the event of a child being withdrawn from Belhaven before the full course is completed, parents are required to give a full term’s notice, in writing, of such withdrawal. Failure to do so will result in their being charged fees in lieu of notice for the subsequent term.

The Board of Governors conducts regular reviews of the fee structures for Boarders and Day pupils in the Junior and Senior part of the School and may introduce amendments to those structures from time to time.

Parents will be given sufficient notice of any proposed changes so that they may consider the variation and plan accordingly. Where fees are charged in lieu of notice as a result of the withdrawal of a pupil, the fee levels will remain at the same level as those paid by the parents for the term in which that notice is given and will not reflect any variations or increases that may subsequently have been imposed.

Fees for this year are as follows:

The cost of all meals for day pupils during the School day for each particular year group (and morning and afternoon break-time snacks) is included in the fees.

Save in exceptional circumstances, which will always be agreed with parents in advance, there are no addi- tional charges for learning support.

If parents are advised that a pupil would benefit from the support of additional therapeutic services, includ- ing the School Counsellor, Occupational Therapist or Play Therapist, and give their consent, the cost of the initial two sessions will be covered by the School. These initial sessions include a parental consultation and a pupil consultation. The cost of any subsequent sessions, will, with the consent of the pupil’s parents, be added to the School bill at a charge of £80 per appointment.

The fees for all pupils, regardless of whether they are a boarder or a day pupil, include the laundry of all games kit throughout the term. Day pupils are asked to bring all their games kit in on the first day of term

and leave it at school until the end of term. During the term, games kit is washed regularly for all pupils in the School laundry. All boarding pupils’ clothes (save for their kilts, which need to be dry-cleaned), towels and bedlinen are laundered at school during term time and the cost is included in the fees.

There is no additional charge for pupils who choose to stay for prep and tea, the cost of which is included in the day fee.

Late Payment of Fees:

In the event that fees due by the start of term are not received by the School, the School reserves the right to charge interest on the amount owed at 1.5% per month from the date when the fees became due, until the date when they are paid. Interest must be paid at the same time as the overdue amount.

Reimbursement of Fees:

In the event that a situation were to occur which necessitated the School closing for a period longer than 14 days, Belhaven has insurance against many potential risks that might result in such closure (although acts of terrorism are specifically excluded). This should enable the School, provided that the closure is as a result of an insured risk, to reimburse fees pro rata for the dates when the School has been closed. If the closure is as a result of an uninsured risk, the School may be unable to reimburse fees or any proportion of them. Parents wishing to discuss this further should contact the Bursar.

International Fee:

An additional £850 per term will be added to the fees for all international pupils regardless of how long they will be enrolled at the School. The Home Office now requires all International pupils (any pupil who does not hold either a British or Irish passport) who are enrolled in the school longer than 6 months to hold a UK and Ireland Child Student visa and the accompanying confirmation of acceptance for study (C.A.S). In order for the school to fulfil these requirements we have engaged Newland Chase as our immigration law- yers for specialist support. All visa applications for Belhaven must therefore be processed through New- land Chase. This supplementary charge of £850 will cover the following;

  • collating all the additional relevant information needed when an international pupil joins the School
  • the cost of the visa application process, including legal and compliance fees for the child’s ‘Child

Student Visa’ application where a visa is required

  • additional support from the School Secretaries with administration, liaison with international par- ents, Educational Guardians and other families for weekends out/half terms as regards travel ar- rangements
  • arranging staff accompaniment of children from Belhaven to and from either Edinburgh or London Heathrow airports (NB. the supplementary charge does not include any costs associated with taxis, plane tickets, train tickets, food or any fees for transporting a child to and from the school and air- port - these will be itemised and the child’s share of the costs billed to families)
  • additional medical support by the School Nurse; for travel purposes relating to Covid requirements, attending medical and hospital appointments in the absence of an international parent and attend- ing Accident and Emergency
  • extra pastoral support for all international pupils throughout their time at the School
  • ‘English as a Foreign Language’ lessons

Services remission:

In the Prep School a fee remission is given to members of HM Forces in receipt of Continuous Education Allowance. Interested parents should contact the Headmaster for further details. Pupils in the Pre-Prep are not eligible for a fee remission.

Sibling discount:

In the Prep School, Belhaven applies a sibling discount policy, the details of which can be ascertained from the Headmaster or the Bursar. Pupils in the Pre-Prep are not eligible for a sibling discount.
