Registration and Acceptance Fees

Junior School
Prior to joining the School you will be asked for a “Registration Fee” of £50 for each child. Once you accept a place at Bootham, you will be charged an “Acceptance Fee” of £75 – these charges are non-refundable.

Senior School Prior to joining the School you will be asked for a “Registration Fee” of £75 for the first child and £50 for each subsequent child. Once you accept a place at Bootham, you will be charged an “Acceptance Fee” of £350 – these charges are non-refundable.

In addition, families living overseas are required to pay a deposit on acceptance of a place. This deposit is offset against the final term’s bill and any balance refunded at that time.

Termly Fees
Fees are reviewed each spring and normally come into effect from the Autumn term.

  • There are three terms per year.
  • The boarding fee is inclusive of tuition fees.

Tax Savings Under the Government’s Childcare Voucher scheme, UK tax payers may benefit from tax savings in relation to school fees for children up to the age of 16 years.

Junior School Fees

What do the Fees Include?

The fees include a mid-day meal freshly cooked and served on the premises for all full-time pupils and those in Nursery who attend a full day. Before School Care (BSC) is available – any child arriving at the School between 8.00 and 8.20 am will be billed £1.70 per day. Those children arriving after 8.20 am will not be charged. Breakfast Club, from 7.30-8.30 am, and After School Care (ASC) will be billed at £5.00 per day for Years 1-6 and £6.00 per hour for Nursery and Reception. After School Care (ASC) will be charged for each 15 minute period (or part thereof). After School Care is available from the end of the school day until 6.00 pm. Music lessons will cost either £15.00 for a 20 minute lesson or £22.50 for a 30 minute lesson. (Music lessons longer or shorter than 20 or 30 minutes will be calculated pro-rata). The school day is from 8.30 am – 3:00/3.30 pm. (Times vary according to year group).

Senior School Fees and Bursaries

What do the Fees Include?

Fees at Bootham cover all day-to-day items, including:

  • tuition and most activities
  • meals at school
  • standard text books and most stationery
  • laboratory and craft equipment
  • Internet services

and for boarders:

  • accommodation and all in-house facilities
  • laundry and minor clothes repairs

Items for which an extra charge may be made when appropriate include:

  • individual musical instrument lessons
  • supplementary coaching in specific subjects
  • personal effects insurance.
  • school and team photographs
  • examination fees for GCSE and A/AS-level
  • some excursion expenses (many are subsidised)
  • dry cleaning, alterations and substantial repairs to clothes
  • some craft and art materials
  • some vocational aptitude testing and advice
  • Special Educational Needs assessments

What’s the Difference Between the Boarding Options?

Full Boarding
7 nights per week with set leave weekends. On long leave weekends children may leave after lessons on Friday afternoon and must return for normal bedtime on Sunday, or with permission from House staff, by 8.30 a.m. on Monday morning.

Weekly Boarding
4 to 6 nights per week. Weekly boarders may go home after Saturday school commitments and return for normal school commitments on Monday. The long leave weekends also apply to weekly boarders.

Part-Weekly Boarding
2 or 3 stated consecutive nights per week.

Day Boarding
Day boarders stay for the evening meal and supervised ‘prep’ and leave at 7.45 p.m. on weekdays.

Occasional Boarding for Day Pupils
Day pupils may stay for 2 nights per term free of charge subject to availability in the boarding house. Extra nights can be arranged through the relevant housemistress or housemaster for which a £45 (per night) charge will be added to the bill.
