Current Year Financial Information

It is Highland’s wish to provide a high quality, Christ-centered education to all young people wishing to enroll. We believe a Christian education is one of the greatest financial investments a parent can make in their child’s life. However, we also recognize the cost of a Christian education may seem overwhelming and unobtainable at first. Please note there are a number of scholarships, discounts, and other financial aid programs available that may dramatically decrease the overall out-of-pocket cost to the parent/guardian, and student. Below is a summary of costs for the current year school year and some of the financial aid programs currently available. Please contact Robert Hillebert, Vice-Principal of Finance, for a personalized financial plan, (615) 325-2036.

A five percent (5%) discount is allowed if the first semester’s Flat-Rate charges are paid in full by registration day, or by January 20th, for the second semester’s Flat-Rate charges. Known scholarships and sibling discounts will be deducted from the Flat-Rate charges. Miscellaneous charges or fines incurred throughout the year will be due upon receipt of the statement following their incurrence. To receive the full discount, payment must be made by cash, check, or electronic withdrawal. Annual or Semester prepayments result in an annual savings of $1,772(dorm) and $1,022(village) or $443 (dorm) and $255.50 (village), respectively.

Monthly Package Plan: The annual Flat-Rate charges can be divided into 10 equal payments (August through May) of $1,772 (dorm) and $1,022 (village). The first month Flat-Rate Charge is due in full by registration. Monthly statements (September through May) are planned to be mailed by the 5th of each month, with payment due in full by the last business day of the month in which the statement is received. Accounts paid in full by the 20th (or Friday before if on a weekend) of each month will receive a one and one-half percent discount on the Flat-Rate. Delinquent Account: Accounts are considered past due if the statement balance has not been paid by the last business day of the month in which the statement was received. A past due account may be assessed a late charge of one and onehalf percent on any remaining account balance. If the account is not paid by the end of the second home leave following the billing, the student may be asked to remain at home until the account is paid or satisfactory arrangements have been made with the school administration.

Transcripts, diplomas or exam permits WILL NOT be issued unless the student’s account is current. Exam permits are required before students may take semester examinations.

Credit Card Payments: Payments made by credit/debit cards may be assessed a 3.75% processing fee.

Student Labor

Highland Academy has developed a successful work-study program for the benefit of student development and to help with tuition costs. Jobs will be assigned based on need, interest, and work ethic. Please contact our Work Coordinator for more information on the benefits and requirements related to student labor opportunities at Highland. The school can make no promises or guarantees regarding the amount of hours worked or wages earned, as these are largely dependent upon the individual students and subject to child labor law regulations. Students will receive paychecks biweekly for all hours worked, after deduction for applicable taxes. Additionally, we encourage giving back to God and will, upon request of the student, deduct tithe (remitted only to the Kentucky-Tennessee Conference) from labor earnings.

As the work-study program was developed, in part, to assist students and their parents or guardians with tuition costs, Highland annually provides families the opportunity of voluntarily assigning some or all of the student’s earnings directly to tuition accounts. On AVERAGE, a student can earn approximately $1,500 (under 16 years of age) and $2,500 (over 16 years of age) during the school year. Note that student activities and/or sickness can interrupt work schedules and therefore affect payroll.

Sponsors, Discounts, and Scholarships

Church Sponsorships – Approximately 57% of Highland Academy’s student body receive some form of support from their home church. On average, church sponsorships range from $50 to $300 a month. Additionally, Highland Academy may match church support for qualifying students. Please see Financial Aid Section. (This is not to include remittance for conference/church work such as: Stipend, Subsidy or Payroll.)

Other Sponsorships – Sponsorship support can come in the form of a student’s family member, fellow church members, and/or other individuals making donations toward a student’s account. Please note however, that directed donations to a particular student’s account do not qualify as a charitable donation under current IRS regulations. Any remittance made for a specific student will be applied directly to the student’s account and will not be issued a tax receipt. If a sponsor wishes to make a tax-deductible donation, payments may be remitted to Highland Academy’s worthy student fund (see below), and the financial aid committee will award funds based on an application process.

Family Discounts – When two or more students from one family are enrolled at Highland Academy, an annual discount of five hundred ($500) will be granted to each student.

Early Application and Registration Discounts – The new student application fee of $35 will be credited to a new student’s account if the new student’s application is received before or during Academy Days each year. New or returning students who enroll on-line and submit all application enrollment documentations by April 15th will receive a $50 registration discount on the next school year’s entrance fee. Additionally, an Early-Bird Discount of $50 will be applied to the amount due at registration when the Entrance Fee of $552 is paid in full by June 30.

Cost Savings – Food, utilities and other household expenses are covered in the Room and Board costs for a dorm student. We estimate a family savings of $250 to $350 a month per student. Additionally, regular nightly recreation and weekend entertainment events are provided, which could result in further savings.

Academy Days Scholarships – Twelve $100 and two $500 scholarships are awarded annually to applicants participating at Academy Days.

New Student Academic Scholarships – Academic scholarships are awarded to 8th grade students from all elementary/jr academy schools within the Kentucky-Tennessee Conference (limit three per school). Scholarships are awarded based on the student’s current year GPA between 3.50 and 3.74 for a $500 scholarship or a $750 scholarship for a GPA between 3.75 and 4.00.

Returning Student Academic Scholarship – Academic scholarships are awarded to Highland Academy’sreturning students who have demonstrated excellence in academics. Scholarships of $100 may be awarded per semester for students who have earned a GPA of 3.75 or above, or $50 for students who have earned a GPA of 3.50 to 3.74.

Achievement Awards – Multiple $300 scholarships are awarded annually to Highland Academy’s returning students who demonstrated excellence in citizenship, ministries, sportsmanship, work-studies, or leadership within each department/class (i.e. Music, Math, English, Bible, Science, etc.).

Summer Labor Scholarship – Highland Academy will match 50% of earnings from summer camp or literature evangelism programs, up to $500.

Financial Aid

Touch the Future

Highland Academy acknowledges that each family’s situation is unique and there will be students who will need financial assistance in order to cover their costs. With the help of the Kentucky-Tennessee Conference and donors, financial aid is provided by the Touch the Future financial aid assistance program and Highland Academy’s Worthy Student Fund. Financial Aid is awarded by an application process in the following categories. Please see the Business Office or online at www.highland-academy.com for an application or for additional information.

  • Church Sponsorship Matching Assistance – based on financial need, Highland Academy may match contributions or sponsorship funds received for a student from a Seventh-day Adventist church. The matching percentages will be determined by the total amount of financial aid awarded and the church contribution portion. Funds are distributed monthly, even if the church contribution is paid by semester or annually.
  • Touch the Future Financial Aid – based on financial need and the family situation, a student may receive a maximum Touch the Future aid award of up to $5,000 annually. Awards are subject to funding and financial need. Church matching assistance funds will be prioritized in establishing award limits and available funds. Funds are distributed monthly.
  • Worthy Student (Sponsored Donations) – based on financial need and the family situation, Highland Academy works with Church members and donors to fundraise additional financial aid dollars above the Touch the Future maximum awards. This aid is entirely based on fundraising efforts made on behalf of individual students or funds given to Highland Academy’s Worthy Student Fund. As such, aid is not guaranteed and subject to continual giving. Sponsored Donations are distributed monthly based on the family’s monthly financial plan and/or as donations are received.
