In the high school 71 percent of the students receive scholarship assistance ranging from $150.00 to $7,000 and totaling nearly 1.2 million dollars. In both schools there are many institutional merit-based and need-based scholarships available to qualified students.

Institutional Mission

The mission of NMMI is to educate, train, and prepare young men and women to be leaders capable of critical thinking and sound analysis, leaders who possess uncompromising character, and leaders able to meet challenging physical demands.

We, the staff of the Financial Aid Office at NMMI believe we should contribute to, and be supportive of, the NMMI mission. We are committed to delivering high quality services that are responsive to your needs.

Financial Aid for High School

NMMI offers a variety of merit-based and need-based scholarships. However, no federal aid programs are available for high school students. When a student applies for admission to NMMI the Formal Application includes an area for scholarship information. This information will be the basis for scholarship evaluation. Students will be given the opportunity to update the information yearly. Scholarships are renewable based on the continued eligibility of the recipient. The Luciano “Lucky” Varela Opportunity Scholarship is available for New Mexico High School students with need. Click here for more information.

NOTE: If you are applying for need-based scholarships you must complete and submit the SSS Financial Need Analysis Form (High School). This form can be accessed at www.solutionsbysss.com – SSS for Families. Our School Code is 904220.

There are two payment plans available:

  • The Cash Plan which requires payment of all tuition and fees plus uniforms and supplies prior to or at matriculation, or
  • The Deferred Payment Plan, where following an initial deposit and service fee, monthly payments are made.

Financial Aid for Junior College

FAFSA FILING For Current Year Available October.

Beginning with the SY a change was made to allow filing your FAFSA earlier than ever by using your prior-prior-year (PPY) income and tax data.

For example, instead of filing the current year FAFSA on or after January 1, of this year using income and tax data from last year federal income tax returns, families are now able to file the form on or after October 1, last year using income and tax data from past records of federal income tax returns. Since most families will have already filed their previous federal income tax returns, more families will be able to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to simplify filing the FAFSA. You will no longer have to wait until your current tax filing has been completed since the information now required will be from two years ago.

Note that this change in the start date for filing the FAFSA applies to both new and continuing students.

NMMI offers federal financial aid to all eligible college students. Federal funds are limited by law to college students. The application priority date is May 1; assistance is awarded after this date depending on availability of funds. More information is available from Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). As a college student applying for aid you have rights and responsibilities.

NMMI participates in the Federal PLUS (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students) Loan Program and also the Federal Stafford Student Loan Program. NMMI offers a variety of its own merit-based and need-based scholarships to qualified students. In addition, the Richard T. Knowles Legislative Scholarship Program awards one new scholarship per year to a resident from each legislative district in New Mexico.

There are two payment plans available: 1) The Cash Plan which requires payment of all tuition and fees plus uniforms and supplies prior to or at matriculation, or 2) the Deferred Payment Plan, where following an initial deposit and service fee, monthly payments are made.

Applications for federal financial aid are available from the NMMI Financial Aid Office or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov . Please contact us by e-mail: finaid@nmmi.edu or phone: 1-800-421-5376 or FAX: (575) 624-8225.
