Nota Bene
Auction Requirement: The annual auction is our biggest fundraiser, and has become vitally important for the financial survival of the school. Each family is required to produce at least 20 “Auction Units”. An “auction unit” represents one hour worked, one raffle ticket sold or $10 value of “auctionable” items. Each family who fails to fulfill this requirement and submit the required documentation to the accounting office by May 15 will be charged $20.00 per “auction unit” that they are short.
Volunteer Work Requirement: Parents must volunteer at least 30 hours to Mount St. Michael between June 1 and April 30. Any families who fail to complete this requirement and submit the required documentation to the accounting office by May 15 will be charged $10.00 for each volunteer hour they fail to complete.
Scrip Requirement: Each family is required to purchase $2,250 scrip between July 1 and April 30. Any families who fail to complete this requirement will be charged $1.00 for each $5.00 scrip increment that they fall short. Although there is no scrip requirement for May through June, we highly encourage you to continue your buying habit. We also highly encourage everyone to exceed the minimum requirement, as most of our families already do. This will allow the school to keep tuition rates down and to raise the funds needed to cover the discounts for the additional children in each family. Please remember that scrip is designed to not require extra money out of your pocket; it is simply re-channeling your normal household purchases through gift cards. Through this system it is the stores who donate to the school.
Scrip Program Policy Change: Credit cards and debit cards will only be accepted for scrip purchases if the school receives a return from the scrip vendor of at least 4%. Families may ask other individuals and families to help them with these requirements as long as those other individuals and families do not have children in St. Michael’s Academy. Also, these three requirements (stated above) are waived for families of boarders who live outside the Spokane area, but any assistance in these areas will be greatly appreciated.
The school would like you to be aware that the federal government allows a type of savings account, known as the Coverdell Education Savings Account, wherein funds that will be used for tuition can accumulate tax-free interest.
