Lincoln is an independent school in Providence, Rhode Island offering a rigorous and exciting learning experience that blends tradition with innovation. As the nation’s only independent school for girls rooted in Quaker values, we provide a unique educational community for grades 1 through 12. We also offer a coed program from six weeks through kindergarten. Our students come from the greater Providence area and beyond, and represent diverse backgrounds and religious traditions.
At Lincoln, students take risks, build confidence, and discover their passions within the embrace of a supportive and inclusive community. Our challenging curriculum, small class sizes, and talented faculty—plus exclusive partnerships with Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, Save the Bay, and other unique programs—make for a robust educational experience where students’ intellectual curiosity can grow. Outside of class, Lincoln students delve into athletics, arts, and service opportunities.
In keeping with our Quaker roots, character, cooperation, and mutual respect are central to life at our school. Through weekly silent meetings and regular assemblies, we reinforce and reflect on our shared values and stay connected. Independent thinking and individuality stand on equal footing with kindness and acceptance: Lincoln students achieve, but never at the expense of each other. So when they graduate, they’re not only equipped for academic success; they’re prepared to build meaningful lives.
Lincoln School’s dynamic academic program, rooted in Quaker principles, educates girls to fearlessly embrace the opportunities and responsibilities of full citizenship in a complex world. Our Values:
Lincoln School values difference and honors a multiplicity of perspectives that includes, but is not limited to, age, religion, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, gender, physical ability, and family structure. We are committed to the Quaker values of equity, justice, peace, and community. These ideals are driven by an understanding that a socially conscious learner is an empowered one, one who engages in critical self reflection and honest action. All members of the Lincoln School community—students, alumnae, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and trustees—will honor, embrace, and empower difference and individuality as sources of strength.
Ever since then, Lincoln has fostered and fueled bold minds in a vibrant learning community. We’re committed to remaining at the forefront of education and adapting to the demands of our changing world while still honoring our school’s core values and traditions. Beloved rituals like our annual Lumina celebration and step singing are as much a part of Lincoln as our academic innovations: Independent studies, partnerships that get girls out into the community and earning college credit, and programs to India and even Cuba.
Most recently, Lincoln has joined several peer schools in moving beyond the confines of the advancement placement curriculum—a change that allows for more of the interdisciplinary learning that’s emphasized in education today, with courses that break down the barriers between academic fields.
At Lincoln, we are strong because of our all-girls status, not in spite of it. Because girls’ education and well being is at the heart of all we do, students learn that speaking their minds is more valuable than playing it safe. They are taught to be confident, critical thinkers who carve out their place in a community built on trust and mutual respect. When girls are more focused on what they think than on how they look, there is nothing they can’t accomplish.
Bold minds begin at Lincoln. We embrace innovation, breaking new ground to provide a rigorous and vibrant learning environment that emphasizes intellectual challenge. Our exceptional faculty, most with advanced degrees, teach small classes that yield big results, like a 100% graduation rate to the top colleges in the country. And just as important, a foundation that prepares our students for futures full of meaning and success.
Dynamic and forward-thinking, Lincoln pushes the boundaries of education, providing outstanding opportunities girls simply cannot get anywhere else. Our partnerships with Brown, RISD, The Providence Steelyard, and Save the Bay mean that our classrooms are not confined to campus. On the turf, we are state champions. Starting with our youngest girls, coding is built into the curriculum’s DNA. In state-of-the-art labs, we engineer possibility. Simply put, Lincoln is a school where leaders are made.
At Lincoln, we’ve been at the forefront of all-girls education since 1884. Our Quaker values of peace and equity, commitment to social justice, and connected alumnae network, means our community is rooted in tradition while preparing for the possibilities of tomorrow. We relish our history, and encourage our girls to take risks and push limits to prepare for our ever-changing world.
Lincoln girls learn what it means to be a responsible global citizen in an interconnected world. With a focus on ethics and empathy, through Global Programs to India and Cuba, independent study or semesters abroad, our students know how to be comfortable with the uncomfortable by taking chances and learning without limit. Trail blazers and big thinkers, Lincoln girls explore their world to discover themselves.
