Established in 1648, we are a one-form entry Church of England school and nursery situated in the inner city borough of Lambeth near a beautiful common, a bustling high street and sites and buildings of historical interest such as Holy Trinity Church and Trinity Hospice.
Being a small school we build strong relationships. Each of us brings our own skills, abilities, gifts and talents to our school community and we aim to celebrate and encourage those things that make each child unique. Alongside high academic standards we provide a range of creative, sporting and musical opportunities allowing children the chance to develop their interests and abilities so that throughout their time at Macaulay each child has the opportunity to discover what they enjoy and what they do well. Our strong Christian ethos and values, and our broad curriculum, nurture well rounded children, prepared for the secondary schools they move onto and equipped to participate in their communities as responsible, inquiring, motivated and disciplined young people.
We would love to show you round our school and answer your questions in person although, unfortunately, you will not be able to see the school in action at the present time. Our Christian vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be confident, happy citizens.
Our current nursery has a large outdoor area with a pond and many opportunities for outdoor learning that enables us to deliver the Early Years curriculum in creative ways. The children are involved with growing fruit and vegetables that they can use in their weekly cookery sessions, they learn French through songs and games with Madame Sally, join the older children for performances and events and make local trips to places such as the Omnibus Theatre.
At Macaulay we strive to develop each individual to recognize their own strengths, find their own passions and to reflect on how to build upon themselves to be the best that they can. We believe that the curriculum provides the bedrock for this and throughout their school life we aim to open possibilities. We have written it with the intention to motivate and inspire learners to take a joy in the world that they live in, to be young explorers and reflective thinkers who embody our Christian values. By the time our children leave Macaulay, they are excited by learning, curious about the world they live in and deeply value education. They also have social experience that opens doors to wider long term cultural capital and emotional intelligence to play, work and problem solve effectively with others. Our children access a truly broad curriculum including arts, science, technology, humanities and sport. They appreciate the rewards found in the pursuit of excellence. We insist that they are able to use deeply rooted skills and knowledge in maths, reading and writing in order to do so. We focus on vocabulary, making connections and enjoying inspiration in order to give real opportunities to explore and deepen understanding.
