One of the leading Universities of the region, Maharaja Agrasen University has the noble legacy of Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology (MAIT) & MAIMS Delhi, which for more than a decade, remains the most sought after institute by the students who want to pursue engineering and management courses. Commencing its first academic session on August 1, 2013, the University admitted students to Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology (MAIT, HP), Maharaja Agrasen School of Management, Maharaja Agrasen School of Law, Maharaja Agrasen School of Architecture & Design & Maharaja Agrasen School of Basic & Applied Sciences, Maharaja Agrasen School of Pharmacy and Maharaja Agrasen School of Humanities. The University has signed MOUs regarding academic collaboration with reputed foreign Universities so that the students, when they pass out, are employment ready.

Maharaja Agrasen University (MAU) derives its name from Maharaja Agrasen, bornduring the last stages of Dwapar Yuga in the Mahabharat epic era whoestablished the Kingdom of Agroha, near Hissar in Haryana, about 5000 yearsago. His monarchy consisted of 18 units. The head of each unit was given aspecific 'gotra'. Equality, Humanism and Non violence were the guidingprinciples of his kingdom. He promulgated that any immigrant coming to Agrohato settle down be given a brick and a rupee by each resident. Thus, he wouldhave a hundred thousand bricks to build a house for himself, and a hundredthousand rupees to start a new business. This way, with a small help from thesociety, all citizens could attain equal status in a community of equals. TheGovernment of India issued a postage stamp in 1976 to commemorate the 5100thJayanti of Maharaja Agrasen.

The visionary idea of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, whose name is linked withhigher education in India, forms the foundation principle of this University.According to him, the University was not merely an institute meant forimparting knowledge or professional skills, but an institute which cantransform individuals into responsible citizens. He wanted that the youth must be provided with integrated education havingmodern scientific knowledge and practical training with ethical standards. Theendeavour of Maharaja Agrasen Technical Educational Society (MATES ), theSponsor of Maharaja Agrasen University (MAU) is to contribute to the society byestablishing a Centre of Knowledge which fosters equality, integrity andexcellence. MATES is a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to thesociety. Maharaja Agrasen University envisions itself as an emerging Center ofExcellence.
