The sense of community and family, not only within the school itself, but also in the greater community, is a critical value of the school. MCI is a comprehensive school open to those who choose to attend and experience skill-based learning opportunities in and out of the traditional classroom setting. The school deeply values the diverse makeup of its school community and encourages the continuing effort to bring individuals from every possible cultural and/or economic background to the school. Thus, the school is truly able to celebrate the diversity of the world.

The people at MCI focus on each student to ensure that every person grows academically, socially and physically with the skill set to be global citizens. MCI’s status as an independent school founded in 1866 can be discovered in its programs and alumni. A high level of rigor and expectation of excellence in all components of the school’s operation is critical, whether that be the academic program, the boarding program, the co-curricular activities or the overall support system at the school.

On our campus in Pittsfield, Maine, MCI students and teachers from down the street and around the world come together — in the classroom and in the dormitories, on the playing fields and on stage, for music recitals, meals and weekly all-school meetings — in an academic environment that is nurturing, safe and academically vibrant and exciting. Since 1866, MCI has graduated thousands of students who have developed life-long friendships with classmates and teachers and have strengthened their connections with our school.

MCI graduates move on to college, careers, service, to life with confidence, self-esteem, and the tools they need to lead fulfilling, rewarding lives.  We are proud that our academic counselors and faculty help our students discover, develop and meet their individual plans after graduation. Their goals are our goals.

MCI offers students opportunities for vocational education through SCTC as well as opportunities for taking college courses at local private and community colleges. We also offer JMG (Jobs for Maine Graduates) program that successfully prepares Maine’s young people to be responsible and productive employees, customers, and citizens.

Our career counselors can set you up with opportunities for internships, job shadowing, and job mentoring. They can help you create a resume, prepare you for job interviews, and connect you with employers to help you explore careers that can focus your academic education while you are at MCI.
