Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) is rated a Category One educational provider by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). Our mission is to deliver vocationally focused tertiary education, research and technology transfer that ensures Auckland’s economy, graduates, employers and communities have the capability and skills to achieve their potential. We recognise that we have a special obligation to serve the people, communities and employers of Counties Manukau and that achieving significantly improved tertiary education outcomes in this subregion is critical to both our mission and to the future economic and social prosperity of the nation.

Manukau Institute of Technology continues to encourage research to inform teaching and to further develop a research culture by supporting staff in a variety of research activities. Emphasis is also placed on the importance of the connection of the Institute with the wider business community through research.

The results of research are presented in a number of forums, including refereed journals and national and international academic conferences. Presentations to professional organisations, together with articles in discipline based and other general publications, ensure that knowledge resulting from research projects is accessible to a more diverse community.

The past year has seen a growth in research projects carried out in collaboration with other organisations, including practitioners in the field and other tertiary providers. These are important relationships in the development of a research culture and it is anticipated that collaborative research, internal and external to Manukau Institute of Technology, will continue and grow.

Our teaching staff are well CONNECTED and respected in their industries so we get to work closely with employers and offer students work placements as part of their education. We are continuously improving, encouraging reflective practice and ensuring the learning is student centred. MIT's high standards were recognised when we were rated a Category One education provider by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). NZQA advised that it is again "Highly Confident in MIT's educational performance" and "Highly Confident in MIT's self-assessment capability" following the latest External Evaluation and Review, published in October 2016.
