Maranatha is a Christian learning community in partnership with home and church where students are inspired to discover and develop their God-given gifts, abilities and character for a life of service to the Lord in contemporary society. Maranatha Christian School understands that parents want a school which reinforces the spiritual values taught at home. Fundamental to this succeeding, is the partnership between parents and the school.

Maranatha Christian School has been teaching Christ-centred education for 46 years and is an established community of Christian parents and staff who have chosen Jesus as the centre of our children’s education. We exist to give Christian Parents a choice in education. Together with home and church, we equip children to live lives of faithful obedience to Jesus. We teach and inspire our children to achieve individual excellence through core and extended curricula. Students at Maranatha learn in a safe environment that encourages academic excellence and critical thinking. With rigorous academic programs, local and International service opportunities and strong student leadership; students go on to flourish and contribute well in their communities.

We employ some of the very best Christian staff in Australia, who are highly capable individuals that model and impact Christian values in a prayerful, secure and progressive environment, partnering with parents by building strong relationships with their children.

The vision for, and roots of, the School extend back to our Dutch migrants in the early 1950's. They sought to establish a school with a curriculum taught from a biblical world view. It was also important to the founders that the school be non-denominational and be governed by parents, as opposed to any one church. After about 20 years of fund raising and planning, Maranatha was officially opened on 7 March 1970 with classes from Prep to Grade 6.

Maranatha offers a seamless, innovative, challenging and robust academic curriculum from Early Years through to Year 12. The School is a pioneer and leader in implementing a Christ-centred curriculum through exploring new ways of learning, which engages students and motivates them to do their utmost for His glory. Our task as Christian educators is to develop the skills and interest in life long education in each student. We provide an inquiry based approach to learning that seeks to foster curiosity about the world, equipping our students with the capacity to research, critique and synthesise information from a Christian perspective.

Collaboration and independence are both encouraged, to help children create innovative solutions to real life challenges. The school uses cutting edge technologies and traditional teaching methodologies to help provide students with a strong foundation in the basics of literacy and numeracy as well as having the ability to think. Maranatha also focuses on building quality relationships, starting with our relationship with God, and so helping our students to understand themselves, and how to respond to the world around them.

At Maranatha we help students see and understand the world through the perspective of God’s truth. The Bible becomes the lens in which students view what they are learning. The lens focusses their thinking on ultimate truth–a Biblical vision for life where the world is created and sustained by God; where God has acted in history to deal with the distortions of creation caused by human rebellion; and where history is advancing towards a new creation in which all things are reconciled to God through Jesus who is not only the climax of the Biblical story but is also the focal point of the lens.

Preparing children to have an excellent disposition for learning starts at home a long time before their first day at school. Yours is a God-given task of nurturing your children, guiding and directing them in the way of righteousness. Christian schooling sets the foundations for a child’s life (for now and also for eternity). Biblical values and attributes are taught and caught as are all the educational concepts developed from ELC – Year 5. Maranatha is a Christian Learning Community. It is a place of safety and discipleship, where passionate, committed teachers partner with parents in the nurture of the Lord’s children. Home-and-school partnership succeeds when the parties communicate; regularly, authentically and constructively.

Junior School is a place to continue the development that has begun at home; intellectual, emotional, spiritual and physical. Junior School is a place to become thoughtful and reflective, to learn principles and values, to become flexible and adaptive, and to develop a strong yet realistic sense of self. Junior School is a place to learn the capacity for rich feelings and their control, for generosity and its rewards, for the balance of selflessness and self-determination.

The Years 7 to 9 programs are designed to enhance student learning in all areas. Curriculum is intergrated and biblical principles permeate through everything we do. We seek to grow Godly adolescents who are equipped to cope in the society they live in.

Our focus is on individual students reaching their potential and discovering their unique gifts. Year 9 is the foundation year, with students prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. There is a focus on organisation, developing good work habits and on study techniques. In Year 10 and 11 students have the opportunity to take a subject above their year level, giving them a taste of what is required in the years that follow.

We offer VCE and VCAL in order to meet the individual needs of all students. Our VCE program offers a wide range of subjects with low class numbers. Year 11 and 12 VCE students have supervised study periods to ensure they make the most of their time at school. VCAL caters for students who are looking for a more “hands on” learning experience. Students in both programs are supported by a Pathways (Careers) Coordinator who works with year levels, individuals and parents.
