Marquette University High School

Marquette University High School is rich in history and tradition. Founded as an academy for young men in 1857 the school was originally established to educate Catholic immigrants in their faith, to aid their families and the community by encouraging productive employment and civic involvement.

MUHS has evolved with each passing decade to meet the changing needs of the young men in our community and like our 17th Century namesake, Father Jacques Marquette, students, faculty and staff members share a passion for exploring uncharted territory, whether it's in a textbook or their own hearts.

The Christian leadership qualities of both St. Ignatius, founder of the Society of Jesus, and Father Marquette are rooted in their faith, courage, vision and generous concern for others and continue to inspire us even today.

As an educational institution, MUHS is privileged to be a part of a Jesuit educational system in the United States which includes colleges, universities and high schools. Marquette University High School is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and is a member of the National Catholic Educational Association and the Jesuit Secondary Education Association.

Marquette High is a special place filled with amazing people who support every aspect of our existence to ensure the young men who come through our doors become "Christ-like men for others." Marquette High's commitment to faith, scholarship and community means we help young men develop not only their minds but also a personal relationship with God, an understanding of the world around them, and their responsibility to others. You can certainly find other schools that offer strong academic programs and good co-curriculars. Marquette offers both, but in addition, is committed to the moral and faith development of young men at a time we believe is most critical. That is what sets us apart.

A Marquette High education provides a strong foundation that allows our alumni to define success as being happy and "Men for Others." It teaches our young men to understand early in life that money and title can be the by-product of living a successful life, but not the measure. We want our alumni to flourish in their careers, but just as important be loving sons, husbands, fathers, brothers, uncles, and religious or community leaders.

Academic excellence is a hallmark of the Marquette University High School experience. Faculty and administration work to ensure that each student has an opportunity to meet his learning needs and interests. Following in the tradition of Jesuit education, the academic environment establishes a foundation for future study with its liberal arts curriculum. At the same time, an MUHS education encourages a sense of critical thought as students develop leadership skills in a classroom setting.

MUHS offers a wide variety of courses designed to give students a solid foundation for lifelong learning. The focus of the academic program is the college-bound student, fortified by both Honors Courses and the Advanced Placement Program (A.P.), which offers college credit options.

Academic excellence has been a hallmark of a Marquette High education for more than 150 years. Faculty and staff work tirelessly to see that each student reaches his potential. While challenging and developing our students' intellect, faculty are committed to cura personalis, care for the whole person. The performance of our students stands as a testimony to the exemplary education they receive. Last year, MUHS students averaged a score of 27 on their ACTs, and 97 percent of the senior class enrolled in a four-year college or university following graduation.

Students at Marquette High are well prepared to be successful in colleges and universities throughout the United States. However, a Marquette High education is more than academic excellence. As a Catholic school, Marquette High prepares students to become leaders who are committed to faith, justice and service. While in high school students gain the valuable experience of serving others, whether through tutoring and mentoring younger children, serving at a homeless shelter, or being companions to the elderly. Each year, students will provide more than 25,000 total hours of service to the community. These experiences, our retreat program, as well as other co-curricular programs form students to become "Men for Others."

Co-curricular activities are an integral part of Marquette High's educational program and offer a variety of activities designed to meet a wide range of student interests. By participating in any of these activities, students can have fun, make new friends, develop and exercise leadership skills, and develop self-esteem and a positive attitude toward others. Co-curricular activities support a caring atmosphere that motivates, encourages and educates all students, and additionally builds cohesive school spirit and enthusiasm through activities.
