Welcome to Matthew Arnold Primary School. We at Matthew Arnold Primary School strive to ensure that the school serves our local children and their families well.
While it is our priority that the education your child receives here with us will enable them to achieve their academic potential and progress confidently into the next phase of their education, it is also part of our vision that all children are filled with positive experiences, feel happy and valued and develop a sense of friendship, tolerance and understanding. Underpinning the above, is our relentless commitment to ensure that the children of Matthew Arnold Primary School possess the values that enable them to live well in society and prepares them to deal effectively with the challenges that the modern world presents.
We at Matthew Arnold: Take responsibility for our behaviour. Treat others with respect and equality. Enjoy learning. Feel safe. Reach our full potential. Celebrate achievement.
It is our aim to be a centre of excellence where children and adults are successfully supported and encouraged to discover new horizons and develop their true potential.
At Matthew Arnold Primary School we aim high and want every child to experience success, our motto is ‘Developing True Potential’.
Every child has access to a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum which prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences for now and the future. We aim to tailor our curriculum to individual need, interest and aptitude to fulfil every child’s potential.
All National Curriculum subjects are carefully planned and structured to ensure progression across both units of work and across year groups / key stages. We are committed to providing a curriculum that increases pupils’ knowledge, skills and understanding as they grow and develop. We aim for high standards in English and maths as well as in all foundation subjects.
Our curriculum is both stimulating and challenging. It aims to develop curiosity and enable children to be independent, active learners. It allows creativity, collaboration and for children to take ownership and to celebrate their learning.
Learning is engaging through varied real life experiences, using fieldwork, educational visits and visitors to school to bring relevance and enjoyment. Our curriculum aims to enable children to grow and develop as individuals whilst deepening their understanding of the incredible world around them.
At Matthew Arnold Primary School, we take our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain very seriously. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos and work of our school. Our ethos and all of our curriculum areas provide a platform for developing these concepts. Children embrace them with enthusiasm and demonstrate a good understanding of their application to their own lives.
We value the diversity of backgrounds of all pupils, families and wider school community. We are committed to serving the school community and surrounding areas. We recognise the multi-cultural, multi-faith nature of the United Kingdom and understand the crucial role our school plays in promoting these values
We make considerable efforts to ensure children have exposure to a wide experience beyond their local community during which these concepts are shown. The children’s strong values-based understanding gives them an excellent platform for embracing difference. The four fundamental British Values are:
Subject studies: Our curriculum topics offer children the chance to reflect on our core values and British values. Developing the skill base required to access/share information, make/express decisions and apply themselves to society and the world. These include the understanding and use of money, effective writing and reading skills, collaborative work, to discuss and research ideas and concepts, and gain a broad and balanced understanding of the society in which they live.
Religious Education: We follow the agreed Liverpool Syllabus and through its study gain a greater understanding of religious diversity and practices, which covers key religions represented in the UK. Pupils learn to understand their place in a culturally diverse society.
Physical Education: We promote the concept of ‘fair play’, following and developing rules, inclusion, celebrating and rewarding success, being magnanimous in defeat and participation in activities that promote teamwork.
