Medical University of Lublin

The history of the Medical University of Lublin goes back to 1944 when the Faculty of Medicine was included as part of the newly founded Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. In 1950 the Faculty separated from MCSU to form the independent Medical Academy. Throughout the years, new areas of research and education, such as nursing, pharmacy, or dentistry, were added. In 2001 the English Language Division was founded which has been offering education in Medicine in the English language to students from all over the world. In 2008 Medical Academy transformed into a university, assuming the name of the Medical University of Lublin.

Medical professions are strictly regulated and medical licensure is subject to control of the local jurisdiction and to changes in the law. Graduates of MD programs may therefore need to go through licensure requirements and a national procedure to get their academic degrees or diplomas recognized in another country if they seek admission to a further course of study there. Licenses are not granted automatically to all people with medical degrees. A medical school graduate must receive a license to practice medicine before he or she can be called a physician in a legal sense, a process that usually entails testing or examinations by a medical board. The medical license is the documentation of authority to practice medicine within a certain locality. It is to a medical/dental candidate’s best interest to become acquainted with the law and requirements concerning obtaining a medical license in the country where they want to practice.
