Middle School Modified Curriculum Teacher - SEND

Job Summary

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Middle School Modified Curriculum Teacher – SEND who is excited to join our world-class school and is driven to provide education at an exceptional level. GEMS teachers enjoy an outstanding school environment in which to deliver a dynamic and creative curriculum to motivated students.

The Middle School Alternative Pathways Program at DAA will offer a path to create an individualized program for students that are unable to access the general education with significant modification. Students in this program will participate in academic courses that are aligned with DAA curriculum standards. The general structure of this program is designed to place students in the Least Restrictive Environment. Students in the program will have access to the following:

• Core subject instruction in the self-contained classroom, using a multi-sensory, hands-on approach to personalized learning.
• Instruction in all other areas in a fully inclusive setting with the SEND teacher providing co-teaching or consultant teaching as outlined in the student’s IEP.
• Learning goals and objectives to be aligned to the Connecticut State Department of Education (CDSE) Framework.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A Bachelor’s or Masters Degree in SEN and a valid teaching qualification.
• A minimum of 2 year’s solid and demonstrable teaching experience working with students with additional needs in middle school grades.
• A passion for inclusion and the creation of inclusive schools.
• Evidence of continued professional development in the field of Special Educational Needs.
• The experience, personality and educational philosophy to drive further, the education agenda at this flagship GEMS school with an international student body.
• Strong academic back-ground, work-ethic, well-organised with excellent interpersonal skills.
