We know who we are and while one of our goals is to provide excellent preparation for college, we see our fundamental purpose to be to ready our students for lives which are satisfying and successful. At Millbrook students do not have to sacrifice choice and opportunity to benefit from the close individual attention and the strong sense of community which is so much a part of this small school. In fact, it is the combination of that choice and our size which creates the school’s hallmark - involvement. Millbrook students are fully immersed in the life of their school. A perfect balance of academic responsibilities, activities and relaxed, fun personal time fills each Millbrook student's day. On the bucolic, college-like campus, there is opportunity around every corner - not only to make a grade, but to make a life, to be curious, to participate, or to expand your talents, abilities and interests, whether that is in the biology lab, on the athletic fields, in the Outreach room, or in the dorm.

The strength of Millbrook's academic program exists not only in the quality of its offerings or the ability of its teachers, for while both are components of a flourishing and broad program, neither can guarantee its success. Rather, the program's strength resides in the attitude, the ethos that fills each class period, each singular exchange between faculty and students.

Classes are places where respect for one another, for the free exchange of ideas and opinions, is a most prized commodity. Within a traditional, rigorous college preparatory course of study, Millbrook students are encouraged to be curious, involved, and active learners, for the teachers with whom they work understand that the success of any educational pursuit lies in the vigor and commitment that students bring to it. The acquisition of knowledge and skills, though critical to our mission, is but a component of a Millbrook education. The ability to read effectively, write clearly, and think independently are of greatest use when students challenge themselves, listen carefully to their classmates, test their own limits, and question their assumptions.

Students come to Millbrook in search of great teachers and exciting programs. Once found, they also discover themselves. There are always a variety of activities on campus every weekend - shopping trips to nearby malls, outings to quaint nearby towns like Millerton, NY, special movie showings, all-school dances, food fests, rollerskating excursions, hiking trips, and much, much more. Check the calendar to the right for a sample of upcoming activities.

We also encourage students to participate in activities which reinforce their Millbrook academic, arts, and athletic programs. Among these might be community service opportunities, outdoor adventures, scientific study at nearby colleges and research facilities, visual and performing arts programs, and sports-related programs.
