Milo Adventist Academy is a Christian Seventh-day Adventist boarding high school nestled in the foothills of the southern Cascade Mountains in Oregon. The campus opened in 1954 and currently has over 400 acres of land bordered by the life-thriving, freshwater South Umpqua River and its surrounding luscious green hills. The only access to the campus is a nationally historic covered bridge which was constructed in 1962. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 29th, 1979.

Our philosophy is rooted in our committment to create opportunities for developing a Christlike character, educational excellence and the discovery for joy of service in a safe, nurturing, and friendly environment. As an extension of this mission, we believe that knowledge of God, communion with Him, and the emulation of His character are of vital importance. Only in cooperation with God can each student, in their quest for knowledge, reach the optimum development of their mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual walks of life.

At Milo, we are committed ensuring that each of our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills that will prove beneficial in their further educational and professional endeavors after high school. An estimated 90% of all Milo graduates continue on to a higher educational institution or trade school while the remaining students are employed almost immediately after their studies at Milo.

While we believe that formal education is an important part of a child’s life, we also believe that other experiences are necessary for a well-rounded development. We incorporate the teaching of practical working and living skills into our curriculum and student life programming and we encourage all students to become a thinker rather than a mere reflector of others’ thoughts.

Milo Adventist Academy is fully accredited through the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS), the Seventh-day Adventist North American Division Commission on Accreditation, and the Adventist Accreditation Association (AAA). Our MSA-CESS accreditation is an annual accreditation cycle where we meet
and maintain a high standard of education practices on an annual basis. Further, our AAA accreditation is an ongoing six-year cycle of quality whereby the school demonstrates the capacity, commitment, and competence to support high-quality student learning and ongoing improvement to our physical plant and education infrustructure.

During our six-year accreditation cycle, our programs are assessed and their impact on student learning with respect to the MSA-CESS and AAA criteria/indicators and other accreditation factors are measured for improvement. We are expected to participate in self-study training provided by the AAA throughout the 18 months prior to the full study and observation visit. This study process culminates in the refinement of a 3–5 year schoolwide action plan.

Throughout the cycle, we are expected to address the schoolwide action plan and demonstrate evidence of acceptable student achievement and school improvement. Using the MSA-CESS and AAA criteria, indicators, and other accreditation factors, a visiting committee will base its approving accreditation status recommendation based on evidence contained in the self-study and encountered during the school visit indicating first, the degree to which high achievement by all students is occurring, second, the capacity of the school to implement, monitor, and accomplish the schoolwide action plan aligned to the areas of greatest need impacting student achievement and finally, the school’s position with respect to institutional and/or governing authority expectations.
