Milton Academy is an independent college preparatory K–12 school, boarding and day in grades 9–12, l
ocated eight miles south of Boston. We are delighted to share Milton with you. You’ll find that students at Milton are friendly, happy, and completely engaged with their work and their many activities. At Milton, you’ll find a powerful, challenging academic experience together with a warm, supportive environment. You’ll work in small classes, with skilled, caring faculty to develop your analytical skills, your perspectives, your creativity and your awareness.
The power of the Milton experience grows out of remarkable relationships. Our teachers, coaches, house heads, advisors and friends get to know students well. They will inspire you, involve you and help you find out who you really are. Milton students love how different we all are: what our families and our backgrounds bring to the School community, and how the talents around us make our community so exciting.
After immersing themselves in Milton’s opportunities, in and out of the classroom, Milton students graduate with the confidence in themselves and the competence to succeed at the most selective colleges and universities in the country. Beyond these further academic pursuits, “Dare to be true” is the idea Milton graduates never lose; they apply their spirit, skills and commitment to meaningful professions of all kinds.
Around the table in the classroom, in laboratories, on fields, in studios, on stage and in your dorm, you’ll find friends and classmates who are smart, caring, opinionated, funny and talented in so many different ways. Milton students like to create, to problem-solve, to work hard, to laugh, and to try new things. They develop confidence in themselves and pride in their classmates. They’re generous, they celebrate, and they are continually surprising in the answers they develop. With so many ways to get involved at Milton, surrounded by so many encouraging people, you’ll find a niche just right for you.
Milton Academy cultivates in its students a passion for learning and a respect for others. Embracing diversity and the pursuit of excellence, we create a community in which individuals develop competence, confidence and character. Our active learning environment, in and out of the classroom, develops creative and critical thinkers, unafraid to express their ideas, prepared to seek meaningful lifetime success and to live by our motto, “Dare to be true.”
The support and care that Milton students feel extends well beyond the classroom. Students experience a nurturing and important balance between the head and heart, living and learning among friends and classmates from across the country and around the world, supported by caring and devoted faculty members (who share their spouses, children and pets!), to create a true home. Relationships formed in this rich environment run deep, and often last a lifetime. Milton’s is a thriving, 24-hour campus, with the resources students need for studies, support and fun.
Milton has long fostered critical thinking and has understood how important diversity is for learning. Our Transition Program for incoming, self-identified students of color was initiated in 1985. Since then, we have welcomed the opportunity to evolve curriculum and programming to best support our students. Through authentic relationships with faculty members who become allies and mentors; through many student-led cultural affinity groups; robust assembly and speaker programming; and campus initiatives new and old—such as the Host Family Program, and Social Justice Peer Educators—we work to make sure our students build relationships and networks at Milton. We are always eager to identify new opportunities for growth and innovation.
When we are connected with a group that understands who we are, all of us are more able to appreciate others’ abilities, and to understand the traditions, gifts and challenges that each of us contributes. Even conflicts provide important opportunities for students to learn how to be firm in who they are, yet flexible and thoughtful in exploring how their ideas affect others. The sharing of experiences and perspectives builds important life skills.

The American curriculum here is truly exceptional; the dedicated staff go above and beyond to foster an environment where students not only learn but flourish, and I’ve witnessed my child's remarkable progress firsthand!
