Monmouth School Boys' Prep

Monmouth School Boys’ Prep provides the friendliness and close pastoral care of a small school with the outstanding resources of its senior school, Monmouth School for Boys. Independent research has recently rated Monmouth School Boys’ Prep as one of the top UK prep schools.

An excellent well-rounded education serves as a foundation for future achievement.  Boys gain experience in a wide range of subjects and the curriculum is supplemented by a vibrant extra-curricular programme.

Monmouth School Boys’ Prep provides a secure and safe environment for boys aged 7 to 11 years.  It provides an excellent academic grounding in all core subjects with a varied curriculum including Languages, Art, Drama, Music, and Sport.

We have specialist subject teachers to introduce your son to Science, Physical Education and Music, with the opportunity to try a wind or string instrument.  The school has regular successes in sport, music and chess at county and national levels.  Educational visits enable boys to extend their knowledge beyond the classroom.

The school provides a staged introduction to Monmouth School for Boys, using the School Chapel for its services and all the senior school’s superb sporting facilities.  Some specialist instrumental teaching, is provided by staff from the senior school. Scholarships are awarded each year as boys move confidently into Monmouth School for Boys.

There are before and after-school facilities, and a large number of clubs and societies meet during lunchtimes and after school.  Boys may board in our Junior Boarding house, Chapel House, from the age of 7.

We focus on developing enthusiastic, inquisitive, resilient boys with high aspirations. The curriculum is carefully planned around boys’ learning styles to develop solid academic foundations. Our engaging subject-specialist teaching staff inspire and motivate the children to learn with a sense of fun and enjoyment. We add the excitement of new subjects and areas of exploration, both in and out of the classroom. Boys make the most of the outstanding facilities on offer for sports, culture and the arts. Through our unique Monmouth Model, they also benefit from the many and varied joint activities with the Girls’ Prep: school trips and expeditions, joint social and co-curricular events and shared community projects. There is a sense that anything is possible, ensuring a confident step up to the senior school.
