Welcome to Nakornpayap International School! NIS has offered a Western educational model since 1993 and is the oldest secular international school in Chiang Mai. The school is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). This endorsement validates NIS as a trustworthy institution of learning, confirming the integrity of the school’s programs and transcripts. As a result, students who graduate from NIS are eligible to pursue their studies at prominent universities in countries all over the world.
NIS embraces the concepts of global responsibility and social inclusiveness and is a remarkable place to learn. Our commitment is to provide a safe, positive, and intellectual learning environment that will empower students to become creative problem solvers, critical thinkers, and inspired learners prepared for high school, college, and life in the twenty-first century. The NIS curriculum is aligned with the American Common Core Standards and Educational Frameworks, with a variety of rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) courses which allow students to develop their interests right up until their successful application to college.
At the heart of every great school is an exceptional faculty committed to guiding students as they explore their potential in a broad range of settings. We offer an education grounded in creative and critical thinking, and relevant to modern day global challenges. The faculty along with the support of our parents and the community have worked hard to develop a successful partnership which is dedicated to immersing students in a rigorous curriculum and educational experience. By enrolling your child at NIS, you can be assured of the quality of the academic and co-curricular programs that will provide a comprehensive education.
Nakornpayap International School provides a multi-cultural setting where students are provided the opportunity to acquire a globally recognized and well-rounded education. NIS strives to develop knowledgeable, confident, collaborative, creative, engaged, and responsible world citizens. Not only do we stress development of the individual, but also emphasize the importance of living meaningfully and effectively in a larger society and world. NIS believes that not all learning takes place in the classroom. NIS offers a strong program of extra-curricular activities and sports where students can fully develop individual potential along with leadership skills and self-esteem. As education is an ongoing process, students are encouraged to become lifelong learners prepared to meet ever changing future challenges.
Nakornpayap International School will embrace diverse cultures and effectively collaborate with all stakeholders and the local community. NIS will respect the importance of inclusive relationships, built from mutual support, while nurturing engaged, confident, and empathetic students. Our goal is to develop critical thinkers, who are active, caring members of the global community.
NIS is set in a multi-cultural setting where students engage in an environment that offers a well rounded, whole student education. With a capacity for 600 students, NIS is big enough to offer diverse programs and large scale activities and small enough to guarantee attention to individual development and educational success. Our students, teachers and parents all value NIS’ nurturing family environment.
Students at NIS regularly meet one-on-one with their teachers to discuss their learning goals and receive feedback on their classwork. Teachers help students identify their strengths, set goals based on areas that need improvement, and furthermore, follow up and celebrate achievements. As they transform their weaknesses into assets, students feel proud of their accomplishments and gain confidence to take on new challenges, inside and outside the classroom.
At NIS, our goal is to make learning more effective and enjoyable by engaging our students’ curiosity through hands-on learning. We strive to instill in our students a passion for investigating the problem, asking questions and finding their answers which result in meaningful discoveries.
At NIS, our teachers take learning beyond the classroom walls. Each student has the opportunity to take part in field trips, after school clubs, sports, annual overnight retreats (Grades 1-8), Student Council, and school-wide events such as International Day and Winter Carnival. Our student body also engage themselves in world issues through school-wide campaigns aligned with global awareness campaigns such as UN International Day of Peace, UN Sustainable Development Goals, #beboldforchange, International Women’s Day, and Earth Day.
NIS graduates attend outstanding universities across the world. Our College Counselor organizes visits from universities and educational institutions from around the globe and has a great deal of information on how to apply for scholarships. NIS is an SAT Testing Center to ensure our students can achieve the highest scores in the comfort of their own school. We work closely with our students to help guide them in their choice for higher education.

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
I attended NIS from kindergarten up until 9th grade. To put in words how much the school shaped me and means to me is close to impossible. The school felt like my second home. The staffs including the teachers, administration, sport coaches, bus drivers, cooks, cleaners, club leaders and seniors all felt like family to me. I remember wanting to arrive one hour before school starts and was usually one of the last people to leave school cause I loved the campus so much. The thought of never wanting to go to school never crossed my mind which is quite rare now that I reflect on it. I enjoyed both the academic and extracurricular aspects. The teachers sparked my interest and love for both mathematics and reading but also sports, advocating for stray animals and dance. Every time I talk about my childhood with someone, NIS is always mentioned fondly.

A very good school with excellent teachers, well-maintained infrastructure, and a warm, friendly, and welcoming atmosphere. The students are kind and polite, and the school offers a wide range of facilities to meet students' needs. Small class sizes promote effective teacher-student communication and engagement

The school campus is wide enough for many car parkings. It has indoor as well as outdoor basketball court, but swimming pool is outdoor. The buildings are 30 years old. Teachers and all school staff are very nice and helpful. US curriculum teaching in NIS is amazingly student-centered. School fee is fair. I really love NIS.

It is the best school among international schools in Chiang Mai.
Making people get along well without social differences or bullying, rather than with friends who live well or not.
Teachers' education is good

I attended NIS from preschool through 8th grade, and it was an amazing experience. The school provided me with a strong foundation both academically and in sports, where I was able to grow and advance. The teachers and staff were always supportive and made learning enjoyable, and the beautiful campus added to the great memories I made there. I only have fond memories of my time at NIS.

I am from Mexico and I sincerely hope to strive to get a 10 in all subjects and study at NIS if my mother also lets me. It looks pretty, comfortable and you can see that you can learn. I hope to study high school there. If that is what it is, I hope to be able to finish my studies there.

As an alumnus of NakornPayap International School (K1-G.12), I hold countless cherished memories of my time there and often find myself missing the school deeply. The teachers and staff were, and still are, incredibly friendly, supportive, and always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter what. Even now, as I am currently navigating through university life, they remain approachable and ready to offer guidance when I need. The diverse opportunities, from joining extracurricular activities like football—one of my all time favorites—to engaging in classroom discussions, equipped me with skills and experiences that prepared me immensely for my future. The nurturing environment and unwavering support of the school community played a great role in shaping the person I am today. I will forever be grateful for the lessons, experiences, and memories that have significantly made a positive impact on both my personal and professional growth throughout the years.
