Nelson is one of the largest Primary schools in the country. We have 4 classes for each year group as well as two part time nursery classes and a total roll of approximately 892. The school has Resourced Provision for 14 pupils with Developmental Language Disorder/or Speech Disorders who are completely integrated into the life of the school.
These children have the same access to the curriculum and opportunities as every pupil in the school. Our pupils have culturally and socially diverse backgrounds. 71% of our children have English as a second or even third language. Approximately 40 languages are spoken in our school with the main languages being Tamil, Bengali and Urdu.
The three storey main building dates from 1901 and there have been additions of a foundation stage wing and a community room. Our dining room, which was completed in November 2011 is used for the benefit of the community as well as its main dining function providing all our children with a free school lunch.
Our job, in partnership with parents, is to build the foundations for a successful education, to enable each child to discover the joy of learning, to help them to fulfil every aspect of their potential and to encourage their growth into effective and confident citizens, ready to play their part in the world and their community.
We work hard to ensure that every child is successful in the key areas of English and Maths and we are keen to see this recognised in the results they secure. However, we also want them to learn and experience more than this through a varied curriculum and a range of extra-curricular and after-school opportunities that complement our work in the classroom and our commitment to global education. We value each child as an individual and aim to provide the opportunities for pupils to excel in areas where they have a special talent whether this is in science, in sport, in drama, in art, in music or through involvement in our school council or our debate team.
We are pleased to have recently formed a Multi-Academy Trust (New Vision Trust) with three other local schools. We look forward to working collaboratively with our new partners to ensure that our provision for our pupils, staff and local community is of the highest quality.
Our aim is to engage our children in an exciting and motivating curriculum that provides the experiences they need to develop skills, concepts and knowledge. A global perspective throughout the curriculum will empower them for their lives today and in the future. Our needs -based curriculum is designed to provide memorable learning experiences that build on the characteristics of effective learning.
Underpinned by our school values, we provide a wide range of opportunities to enrich learning, both during the school day and beyond. Whether our children join the school with English as their home language, or whether they learn the English language for the first time, we ensure they are all provided with the teaching and nurture they need. Our aim is to help all children to become independent, resilient learners who relish new experiences and challenges.
We value the diversity of our school community and, while we celebrate and welcome difference, we also provide support for families through our extended school provision, ESOL classes, parenting classes and workshops. We know we have succeeded when children leave the school with the skills and confidence to reflect, make decisions, and continue on their journey of lifelong learning.

This is the best school I would suggest. Teachers work hard to make the Base of every student strong, which makes the difference in future. Many Thanks to all teachers for their efforts...

I am the happy mother of my children who went to Nelson. One of them was a green house captain.

I taught at this school for 9 years. All the teachers here are amazing and work really hard to achieve the best for all children. The pupils are really well behaved and I think it's one of the best schools in Newham if you want your children to be safe, happy, and make excellent progress then send your kids here.
