Founded in 1889, the New York Military Academy provides both discipline and a solid education putting it “One Step Ahead.” A NYMA education develops a cadet’s mind, body and character building the foundation for continued education and leadership. Patriotism, determination, and pride are all parts of a cadet’s daily life. The Academy, the center of learning, with its etymology dating back to Ancient Greece, instills a solid education. The curriculum individually laid out for each cadet, charts the course of instruction. This education is interlocked with military discipline, which provides the Cadets of the Corps beneficial training for life beyond the Academy’s walls. Cadets leave the Academy orderly, prompt, courteous, and self-confident. Our Military Academy puts cadets — “One Step Ahead.”

We teach our cadets that good leaders view challenges as opportunities to make themselves stronger, smarter, more nimble, and better, Higher hurdles make possible even higher expectations.

We also intend to use a new academic daily schedule to support our students’ ability to manage the curriculum, should online instruction be mandated at any time.  We  have five 65-minute class periods.  The academic day begins at 8:00 and ends at 3:15, with clubs and character leadership running from 3:15-4:00, followed by athletics.  Some may be concerned that a five-class limit may impact their graduation, preventing them from fulfilling their required coursework.

Every cadet is prepared for college with a program that is individually tailored. Qualified, conscientious teachers and small classes offer opportunities and success stories that make the NYMA educational experience so sought after and valued. Developing good citizens requires developing the essentials of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Developing future leaders is one of the unique aspects of the NYMA experience. Self-discipline, leadership, and citizenship are integrated into the daily life for the Corps of Cadets. As cadets move up in rank, they are given increasing levels of responsibilities in supervising, leading, and instructing fellow cadets.
