The Newtons’ Undergraduate Scholarship in Mathematics has been established by Paul and Jenny Newton, both of whom studied Mathematics as undergraduates at the University of Surrey.

The Newtons’ Undergraduate Scholarship in Mathematics provides £3,000 a year for up to three years, plus £1,000 for a Professional Training placement if taken. The Scholarship aims to encourage and support students from lower income backgrounds on any undergraduate degree programme led by the Department of Mathematics at the University of Surrey:

  • Mathematics BSc (Hons)/MMath
  • Mathematics with Statistics BSc (Hons)/MMath
  • Mathematics with Music BSc (Hons)
  • Financial Mathematics BSc (Hons)

Students can receive The Newtons’ Undergraduate Scholarship in Mathematics in addition to a University Merit Scholarship as well as any other bursary, prize and award for which they are eligible, if successful.

To apply for The Newtons’ Undergraduate Scholarship in Mathematics please download an application form and submit it to bursariesandscholarships@surrey.ac.uk.

Students will be advised of the outcome of their application following confirmation of their A Level results and place at Surrey.

Eligibility

To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have an offer to study at undergraduate level any subject/s led by the Department of Mathematics at the University of Surrey
  • Have chosen the University of Surrey as your first or insurance choice
  • Have family income of no more than £35,000
  • Maintain a minimum level of 2:1 (60% or higher) throughout the course
