Northlands was founded in 1920 by two visionary Englishwomen, Winifred M. Brightman and Mildred Ivy Slater. It opened its doors on April 1 of that year to 16 students (both boys and girls) and within a short time it had developed a solid reputation. Three years later, NORTHLANDS stopped receiving boys and became renowned as the best girls’ school in South America. Its main objectives of stimulating students to achieve a high academic standard, always keeping the personal, social and moral development of each student in mind, became consolidated into the School motto of “Friendship and Service”.
NORTHLANDS is a non-confessional, coeducational, bilingual, IB World School with two sites situated in Zona Norte, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The School offers a very high standard of education to children between the ages of 2 and 18. It is a school that values its Anglo-Argentine roots, while respecting all cultures, religions and nationalities. It offers an all-encompassing, warm, cordial and friendly environment which is reflected in its motto: Friendship and Service. Graduates are individuals whose integrity and moral values lead them to choose freely what is right.
After having proudly celebrated our first 100 years in 2020, our vision at NORTHLANDS is that we approach teaching, learning and living in the spirit of the International Baccalaureate, encouraging our students to achieve their personal best by uncovering their talents and preparing them to become engaged global citizens, continuing to truly live up to our School motto.
We aim to strengthen our position as a leader in education and innovation by achieving outstanding international examination results, obtaining international accreditation, focusing on state-of-the-art technology, expanding our Education for Sustainable Development Projects, instilling a culture of healthy lifestyle choices, developing our campuses to meet the needs of our highly demanding programmes, and continuing to develop a closely knit community influenced by the diversity of our families.
The aim of our mission “to educate young people whose moral values lead them to choose freely what is right”, NORTHLANDS develops its education and character development platform interconnecting it with the School’s Personal and Social Education axes, with the values which sustain our culture, the IB learner profile (International Baccalaureate) and the expansion of the habits of mind.
At Northlands, we consider that the physical and socio-affective well-being of each of our students is an absolute priority as part of an integral education.
As mentioned in our School MISSION, Northlands educates young people to their full individual potential through caring and innovative teaching.
We have articulated a Child Protection Policy aimed as a pillar to guarantee the development of our students´ abilities and full potential in a safe and caring environment.
The traditions we share and respect at Northlands strengthen the feeling of identification with our roots and with our commitment to educating honorable individuals, whose ethics will lead them to freely choose what is right. The Houses, the Student Council, the Captains, the Prefects and the Head Students are intended to integrate and generate spaces of participation and healthy competence among the students, since they should assume the responsibility of organizing different activities, representing their fellows, leading their groups and setting permanent example for all the students at School.
