Welcome to Oasis Academy Putney, a beautiful, new primary academy which opened in Wandsworth in September 2016. We are a two form entry, inclusive, non-selective, co-educational community school.

Our new academy is founded in the belief that all pupils, regardless of background or ability, can fulfil their potential as they develop aspirations, self-belief, justice and respect for community and themselves. We will develop responsible and empowered citizens of the future. We support all pupils, including those with special educational needs, through creative teaching methods and very high expectations.

At Oasis Academy Putney we are creating a centre of educational excellence for all. It is a healthy, safe, caring environment where community is paramount and where everyone aims to be the best version of themselves. We value parental and family involvement in the day to day life and development of the school as children learn best when we work together.

Oasis Academy Putney is situated on the former Putney Hospital site on Putney Common, Lower Richmond Road. The brand new building is designed as an exciting environment for Primary aged children to learn and develop in. It will provide high-quality, purpose-built, safe accommodation with direct access to the wonders of the common. Children will be able to use their environment, inside and out, to develop their confidence, creativity and social skills whilst feeling safe, loved and included. Oasis Academy Putney is an inclusive academy for children aged between 4 and 11 (Reception to Year 6), committed to delivering first class-education and playing an active role in the local community.

Oasis Academy Putney is driven by a powerful ethos which aspires to treat everyone inclusively and recognises the importance of a holistic approach to education. As well as continuing to build a strong school and deliver a first-class education, it is also our desire to build an interconnected community, recognising that educational needs to not exist in isolation from the needs of the whole person.

This African saying reflects the importance of the whole community in educating our children. Support goes beyond the classroom and beyond the Academy gate. Parents, carers, families and other members of the community are invited to be involved in the life of our Academy.

At Oasis Academy Putney we aim to

  • Create a happy, stimulating, caring learning environment where risk taking and challenge is encouraged.
  • Awaken and nurture a love of learning that will last a lifetime and provide everyone with the skills to pursue that learning independently and collaboratively.
  • Enable everyone to reach the highest standard of which they are capable, academically and in other fields such as sport, arts and culture.
  • Encourage all learners to develop their own interests, passions, enthusiasms, creativity and individuality.
  • Help learners to understand and care about the world in which they live, and to believe in their ability and responsibility to change that world to make it better.
  • Empower learners to develop a strong sense of right and wrong, good and bad, equality and justice. Give them the inner strength to act according to these values.
  • Provide learners with the skills and understanding to live a healthy, successful life, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
  • Foster respect, tolerance and love for others, regardless of race, gender, religion or difference, within a framework of equality of opportunity and fairness.
  • Help learners to appreciate human achievements and aspirations and to believe in their own potential to attain great things.
  • Promote a feeling of pride and confidence in learners’ identities; as individuals, as members of our academy, as part of the local community and as citizens of the world.

At Oasis Academy Putney, we believe that our children learn best

  • If we give them a wide experience of different subjects and activities.
  • If we focus on teaching them skills and how to do things.
  • If they are actively involved, interested and enjoy their learning.

Oasis Academy Putney will incorporate the National Curriculum in an exciting and creative way that takes into account the latest research on how our children think and learn. We will encourage our learners to achieve their very best and to ensure they develop their skills and talents in all aspects of intellectual, social, moral, spiritual, cultural and physical development. We will ensure there is a rigorous focus on literacy and numeracy so that all children exceed national expectations.

The learning environment will be carefully planned to support the learning and teaching in the core curriculum areas so that children can become independent and motivated learners. Children will be able to access a range of extra-curricular opportunities including breakfast and after-school clubs. Parent/carers will be asked about what clubs their children would like to join before the school starts in September and consulted with before a decision on the choice of clubs is made.

I am so delighted my grandson attends Oasis Putney. He is in the first intake and has flourished beyond our expectations. He loves school and has been encouraged all the way by his teacher and the rest of the staff. I was fortunate to meet the founder Steve Chalke ,a caring and all round good guy whose priority is the childrens future. I wish everyone who is involved with these academies the very best as they all really deserve the recognition. I have worked myself in Education and see a great future for this school.
