Welcome to Oliver Goldsmith Primary School. Awoken by creativity, and the children themselves, we look to the future: building a responsible, respectful next generation who know how to uphold positive relationships and are ambitious, life long learners. We believe that children from every background should have the opportunity to excel and achieve their dreams.

We are an inclusive Southwark Primary School with 420 pupils aged 3 to 11. Oliver Goldsmith was built in 1899.

We are proud of our vibrant, enthusiastic and high achieving children and how our personalised curriculum encompasses diversity and extra-curricular activities and our strong links with the local community.

Oliver Goldsmith Primary School is a Southwark Local Authority community school. Our vibrant links with the outside community provide unique opportunities for our students; taking advantage of our location on the borders of bustling and colourful Camberwell and Peckham- and our close proximity to some of the capital’s most exciting educational attractions.

Our school caters for Reception to Year 6, with an additional nursery, offering part and full-time places. We are situated in two Victorian buildings, connected by a modern extension. We have almost completed purposeful move from three forms to two forms of entry to create greater play space and learning opportunities for our students.

At Oliver Goldsmith we are proud to be an inclusive, multi-cultural primary with a strong school community and family atmosphere. We are a high achieving school, in the top 10% in the country for progress.

In addition to the National Curriculum we offer many extra-curricular activities before, after, and during school times; supporting our aim to educate the whole child. Oliver Goldsmith Primary School is a stimulating, healthy, safe and most importantly exciting learning environment for all.

The School Vision: "A learning environment that is a climate of excellence; where ambition and challenge lead to outstanding achievement".

The School Values: Our values are core to all we do at OGPS and underpin all our learning. Through lessons, assemblies and discussions children and staff understand and display our values.

  • Responsiblity
  • Respect
  • Ambition
  • Positive Relationships
  • Life-long Learners

At Oliver Goldsmith high quality learning is central to all we do. There are a number of ways we promote the very best learning with our pupils:

  • High Quality Teaching
  • Developing a Growth Mindset
  • Providing Exciting Learning Opportunities
  • Teaching, Expecting and Embedding Dialogic Talk

Our Curriculum is highly stimulating and exciting for the children. It is designed in accordance with statutory requirements ensuring that all children are taught National Curriculum and associated Programmes of Study.

Our Curriculum is skill based whilst also developing children’s knowledge. It represents the children at our school, reflects their cultural diversity and gives them a real purpose for learning.

We believe our creative curriculum and our middle leaders are a strength of our school and a key reason why progress and attainment is rising.

It is important the learning environment encourages and adds to each and every child’s learning experience. We pride ourselves in exceptional outdoor and indoor learning environments for the children.

The Foundation Stage begins when children reach the age of three and includes the children in both the Nursery and Reception Classes. The Foundation Stage curriculum is organised into six areas of learning and underpins all future education, these are: Personal, social and emotional development, Communication, language and literacy, Mathematical development, Knowledge and understanding of the world, Physical development, Creative development.

The early years of children’s education are a vital part of the development of their skills and attitudes, which will enable them to fulfiltheir social and academic potential.

At Oliver Goldsmith School we strive to provide an excellent start for your child and aim to offer high quality early years provision.

We have worked together to design a creative, topic based curriculum that is relevant, exciting and real for our children. It involves practical experiences, visits and challenges for children. We immerse high quality writing and talk opportunities across the curriculum.

Phonics is taught discretely in classes as well as being linked into Reading and Writing across the curriculum. A HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) provides specialist additional support in small groups for children in Year 1 and Year 2 in Phonics.

All children in Year 1 sit a Phonics Screening test at the end of the year. Those children who do not pass this test resit it at the end of Year 2 following a programme of additional support. Children’s attainment in Phonics has been increasing year on year.

In writing children are given opportunities to progress through whole class shared writing sessions, in which pupils compose texts, edit or refine work and examine the processes of writing with the teacher.
