Oneida Baptist is a Christian boarding and day school for students, Christian or non-Christian, in grades K-12 (boarding for grades 7-12). Our mission is to provide a structured living, learning and working environment in which each student is challenged to grow mentally, physically, socially and spiritually in order to acquire an Education for Time and Eternity.

At Oneida Baptist, students will meet people from across the United States and around the world. They will also experience daily chores and responsibilities, interact with Christian adults, attend daily chapel services, receive individual attention in class and have a chance to join sports or other cocurriculars.

OBI has private school accreditation through the National Non-Public School Commission (NNP-SC), the Kentucky Non-Public School Commission (KyNPSC), and the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE).

Welcome to our school. Take a moment to browse and learn more about our unique ministry to teens. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. For over one hundred years, the purpose of Oneida Baptist Institute has been to provide young people with a high quality Christian education. What began as a ministry to mountain children grew into an outreach to young people from around the world. Located in a small rural village in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky, Oneida is a school that has adapted to meet the needs of a changing society while remaining true to its Christian vision and purpose. OBI provides a safe, structured environment where students can learn life lessons of responsibility and self-discipline. Oneida accepts day students in grades K-12 and boarding students in grades 7-12. On average...

  • OBI's enrollment is approximately 275-300 students.
  • 50% of our students are from the state of Kentucky, 30% from other states, and 20% from other nations.
  • We normally have about 85 middle school students and 200 high school students.
  • Our average class size is 11 students.
  • The ratio of male/female students is about 50% male, 50% female.
  • The average number of students in a graduating class is 52. Approximately 60% of OBI graduates continue their education after graduating from Oneida.

To accomplish our mission, we minister to our students in four major areas: academics, work, co-curriculars (athletics, clubs and organizations) and worship. See Campus Life for details about the different facets of our program.

Every school deals with the mind of young people, but few, like Oneida, minister to the soul as well. While we respect the backgrounds and beliefs of all of our students, we steadfastly present the Gospel of Jesus Christ in daily required chapel services. We provide additional fellowship and discipleship opportunities for young Christians or seekers in our Campus Ministry program.

OBI is a faith ministry, and we do our best to make the most of every dollar. The largest portion of our funding comes primarily from churches and individuals. The fees charged to students from the United States are based on family income and virtually every Oneida student receives some sort of tuition reduction. No American student is ever turned away from OBI because of a legitimate inability to pay.

Oneida is also blessed to have donations of goods and services. Hundreds of volunteers visit every year and donate their labor for campus maintenance and projects. The mission of Oneida Baptist Institute is to provide a Christian living, learning and working environment in which each of its students, Christian or non-Christian, is diligently challenged to grow mentally, physically, socially and spiritually in order to acquire an Education for Time and Eternity.

Oneida Baptist Institute in Kentucky has provided my child with an excellent education. The teachers are highly knowledgeable and caring, and the staff has been incredibly helpful. My child has made significant progress academically and personally since joining the boarding school.
