Our Lady of Fatima Dominican Convent School

We at Our Lady of Fatima find ourselves on relatively solid ground with a clear vision for the future of our school, our teachers and our girls.

What drives this vision is our belief that, as a unique school, we add value to our Durban North community. We believe that we will continue to be innovative as we teach and practice the skills necessary for the 21st century - skills which include the sensible use of technology, tolerance of diversity, compassion for those in trouble, resilience and entrepreneurial savvy.

We endeavor to equip young women to go out and make a difference, and we encourage our girls to have a voice in a complicated world.

Our school is proud to be affiliated to both ISASA and the Catholic Board of Education. We believe that as a Catholic school we are strongly positioned to provide effective, holistic education in South Africa and that as a Girls’ School, we grow gracious girls who are encouraged to ‘let their lights shine’ in their own sphere of influence.

As a Catholic school we are pilgrims on a journey. We are conscious of our present human condition and are aware always of our failures, imperfections and contradictions; even so, we see the vision beyond our present reality and strive to offer an experience of things as they can and ought to be. We strive to be an outward-looking community permeated by the Gospel spirit of love and freedom.

Within our nurturing Catholic environment we work to engender an awareness of the needs of all, and extend mutual respect to the faiths and philosophies of the community we serve. We strive to offer holistic development through quality education and the recognition of individual talents, encouraging personal growth, responsibility and critical awareness in our learners. We are committed to ensuring that each girl’s sense of confidence, self-esteem and worth is valued and affirmed in our Christ-centered family atmosphere.

Meeting the challenges of modern education, we offer well-equipped centers for research; two junior libraries and a senior library, two computer centers and an audio-visual room. We also offer a Technology room where learners have the use of various equipment for example, sewing machines and wood working tools, two Art studios, two Drama studios and a Music room. The Consumer Studies classroom supports a newly refurbished, modern kitchen. In addition there are three fully equipped Science Labs and a school Hall. All classrooms are fully air-conditioned and have access to computer projection for the use of the Internet and Ebeam Interactive technology. The Academic Support classroom has access to a large exercise area for various activities.

Sporting facilities utilized in the school grounds include two swimming pools, 4 tennis / netball courts, a mini sports field and larger fields and a Hockey Astroturf at Riverside Sports. Indoor hockey and Action Netball are played at nearby arenas.

The beautiful church of Our Lady of Fatima, alongside the school, accommodates the pupils, staff and parents for services. The school is fully fenced and monitored by 24 hour on-site security.
