Our Lady of Peace Primary School is situated in the Barlanark area in the east end of Glasgow. The school is part of the St. Andrew's Learning Community. We work together with partner primary schools, partner family learning center, nurseries and St. Andrew's Secondary School. The school currently has 297 pupils, with 11 classes and a Rainbow Room, covering Primary 1 to Primary 7 on a co-educational basis. The school capacity is 330 and is a two story new building.
In Our Lady of Peace Primary, we all work hard to ensure that all pupils know that they are valued members of our school and their community. Our motto is “love, live, laugh and learn”. Together, we aim to foster respect in a community of faith and learning, raise attainment, reward achievement and celebrate success. We want everyone to enjoy their time here and move on with the best of memories and skills for life and work.
In Our Lady of Peace Primary School we will provide a welcoming and friendly environment, which celebrates the diversity of our community. We are a nurturing school where everyone feels safe, happy and valued and all
children are supported to reach their full potential. This is achieved through working together with children, their families and the community, based on a shared sense of direction.
We promote Gospel values which we learn about at assemblies and in class. Children who show them in their actions and words are recognized at assemblies. Our children and staff aim to live by our rules of Safe, Ready and Respectful.
Curriculum for Excellence has been introduced to raise standards of learning and teaching in all 3 to 18 year old's. It aims to help prepare children and young people with the knowledge and skills they need in a fast changing world. As part of Curriculum for Excellence, all children from pre-school to the end of S3 will receive a rounded education known as a Broad General Education (BGE). Curriculum for Excellence is all about bringing real life into the classroom and taking lessons beyond it. Here in Our Lady of Peace we aim to offer a broad curriculum which is both challenging and enjoyable. In this way we enable children to become:
Every child is entitled to a broad and deep general education, whatever their level and ability. Curriculum for Excellence has been introduced across Scotland for all 3 – 18 year olds – wherever they learn. This curriculum framework balances the importance of knowledge with skills. It develops skills for learning, life and work to help young people to go onto further study, secure employment and navigate life. It brings real life into Quality Assurance.
Early handwriting skills are developed using a variety of materials in the class. This leads on to more formal work based on Nelson Writing. Creative writing is developed using “Big Writing”. Children are introduced to VCOP in Primary 1 and this is further developed at each stage. Creative writing may also be aided by the use of computers which allows children to concentrate on content rather than being concerned with presentation.
