Dubai, UAE: To celebrate the spirit of giving during the holy month, the Dar Al Ber Society has organised a unique charity campaign called ‘ChariTREE – Plant For A Cause’, where they are creating awareness among the young generation about the importance of trees and charity.
Under the campaign, Dar Al Ber Society (Dabs) officials are visiting various schools, colleges and private and government offices and holding interactive sessions at these places, also to raise funds for charity through the sale of the plants to people there.
A number of hands-on activities, presentations and discussions were organised for students to learn the importance of charity as well as that of environment. To give them a philanthropic act to follow up with, they were asked to buy a plant priced at Dh10 per sapling. The revenue from its sales will be used to conduct Dabs’ charity activities during the Year of Zayed.
“We launched this initiative a little more than a week ago and so far, over 5,000 students from Manipal University at Academic City, Ambassador School at Mankhool and Indian High School, Al Garhoud have participated in the event. The age group of the students range from three years to 22 years. There are two aims of the ChariTREE – to raise funds for charity and to spread awareness about tree plantation,” said Juhi Yasmeen Khan, a charity initiative expert for the society. “So, we have taken two words – Charity and Tree, and combined them to give the name of ChariTREE to the campaign.”
“We are aiming to create future philanthropists, who not only care for people but for the environment also. So far, we have visited two schools and a university, and it was humbling to see the enthusiasm of the students and faculty to be part of our initiative,” said Hisham Al Zahrani, deputy director of Dar Al Ber Society.
Talking about the main aim of the initiative, Khan added: “Dar Al Ber aims to create awareness among the younger generation and raise funds by selling these saplings. We give the saplings to the students, who then plant them in their school and take care of them. This is how we are involving the younger generation in giving back to the society. The campaign would continue in many more schools, universities and offices across the UAE.”
Abdullah Ali Bin Zayed Al Falasi, CEO of Dar All Ber Society, said: “If we want to make the world a better place to live for us and our future generation, people, especially our future generation, should understand and appreciate the role of charity and trees in our lives.”
Appreciating the initiative, Sagar Vijaykumar, head boy at the Ambassador School, said: “ChariTREE is such a great initiative where we not only learnt about the need of charitable activities in our society, but, it also reminded us about the importance of the trees in our life. We thank Dar Al Ber Society for coming to our school and organising the activity.”
