Pencoed Comprehensive School

Welcome to Pencoed Comprehensive School, a secondary school in South Wales. We seek to provide all of our pupils with a rich and fulfilling academic experience, in line with our core values: ambition, success, perseverance, inspiration, resilience, and engagement.

At Pencoed, we are at the forefront of developments in Wales’ Curriculum reform. We are also excited to be involved in a number of ground-breaking wellbeing initiatives, and have acquired an excellent reputation for our work in this area. We strive to provide all learners with every opportunity for participation and success, within and beyond the classroom.

Working with the governing body, and supported by a great team of staff, my role as Head Teacher is to ensure that we continue to meet the academic and wellbeing needs of all learners, providing the building blocks for their futures. For many, this will include joining Penybont 6th Form College, our innovative partnership with Bridgend College.

Our school curriculum is organised to provide all pupils with a broad and balanced education, regardless of ability. All work is effectively differentiated to ensure pupils reach their full potential, and they are provided with a number of experiences to enhance their learning both inside and outside of the classroom.

All lessons are taught by well qualified and committed staff, who deliver the school’s curriculum through engaging and appropriately challenging lessons. With this support, pupils confidently progress through the Key Stages.

For those pupils who have additional learning needs, there are a number of measures in place to provide more intense support to aid their progression, ensuring every pupil is equally able to access the demands of the curriculum. Similarly, those pupils who have been identified as MAT (more able and talented) are suitably challenged, through tiered setting in certain subject areas and differentiated work.
