Welcome to Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School. Our school is a Grade 8 to 12 facility enrolling approximately 555 students. PSO has a wide variety of learning supports embedded in its structure to help meet the educational needs of its students. We offer program delivery through regular classroom instruction in our semesterized timetable, our independent directed studies: First Nations Tutorial program, through our IDEA electronic and self-paced delivery support program, or within the bounds of our Learning and Behavioral Support Alternate Program or Learning and Lifestyle Support off campus Storefront Program. Students may choose single or multiple program offerings concurrently or in isolation in order to meet their personal and educational needs.
We are actively involved in the District's Secondary School Apprenticeship (SSA) and Career Technical Centre Programs (CTC) hosted at the TRU campus in Williams Lake. Our SSA Program offers all Students age 15 and older the opportunity for a "head start" on apprenticeship training and ability to earn secondary school credits towards graduation, while the CTC Program offers students in grades 11 and 12 the opportunity to earn concurrent credit in both post secondary programs as well as secondary school graduation credit.
PSO has a most active and progressive student Leadership Program that continuously introduces our students and community to student led innovative activities that support our school's Social Responsibility goals. This year has also brought with it the introduction of a whole new series of literacy-based initiatives and instruction to better help support our students in their learning. The staff has again taken a leadership role in giving of themselves to make instruction and student learning our most important focus. It is our goal and wish to ensure we have positive and lasting relationships with our students and community. Together we can learn, support and make a good school and educational experience even better.
Through partnerships with employers, post secondary institutions, and community organizations, the District is able to create a variety of learning opportunities. Please visit the SD 27 Career Development Overview page for more information. This program intends to identify, train, prepare, and place secondary school students in employment positions with the Provincial Initial Attack Program (IA) and the Emergency Fire Fighter Program (EFF) of the BC Ministry of Forests. The skills and attitudes developed, put them in preferential positions when pursuing future full time positions with employers in the public or private sector as they complete their education and move into the workforce.
The program will provide an exciting and challenging opportunity for grade 12 students. A comprehensive training in forest firefighting techniques, intended to give career training and future employment opportunities. The top four candidates who successfully complete all training will be offered valuable summer employment, (subject to budget allocations).
The students that successfully complete each phase of the selection process will attend the Academy and experience a variety of activities that a police cadet would experience but in a capsulated format. This program is designed to place students in an RCMP Training Academy environment. Students will receive instruction and lectures in law, police tactics, social skills, physical training, self defense and a variety of other topics. They will be involved in a great deal of role playing scenarios where they will take on the role of a police officer. They will be required to work in a team and partake in all of the planned activities.
This academy is an excellent learning experience but will be extremely challenging, both mentally and physically. For more information, contact your school’s Career Centre. This program is provided to grade 11 and 12 students in the district through a partnership with Mount Polley Mine, Gibraltar Mines, the Ministry of Transporation and Infastructure and the many businesss and suppliers to the mining and logging industries.
